Quarterback help?
Broncos coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Brian Xanders will sit down with quarterback Ingle Martin this morning. If Martin passes the interview, he could be practicing with the Broncos this afternoon.
The Broncos could use quarterback depth after backup Chris Simms suffered a sprained left ankle during Saturday's game in Seattle.
While Simms has shed the crutches and is recovering nicely, he is not expected to play in the final two preseason games — Sunday against Chicago and Sept. 3 against Arizona.
That would leave the Broncos with starter Kyle Orton and rookie Tom Brandstater for the final two games. The Broncos don't want Orton playing much against Arizona, and the game seemed to be moving too fast for Brandstater in his debut against Seattle.
Martin, 27, was drafted from Furman in the fifth round by Green Bay in 2006 and has since been employed by Tennessee and Kansas City. Martin, who began his college career at Florida, can also be used as an emergency punter and kicker.
