View Full Version : Tweets (twitter) of note about the Broncos from fans and reporters

Ok, I decided to create one thread to post tweets, whether in response to our threads or questions posed on Twitter, or the various tweets that the reporters following the Broncos send out.

Twitter has become the "instant" news medium for reporters to get short updates out quickly.

You can also follow BroncosForums on twitter at http://www.twitter.com/BroncosForums

The BroncosForums tweets are primarily announcements of new threads in Broncos Talk and the News/Articles forum.

I posed the question: "What's the state of the Broncos? Did the game show enough progress? How will we do this year? tweet back or discuss at BroncosForums.com"

Here are some replies:

@Skotty_Payne we showed improvement. People on your board need to chill. Orton looked good. Defense looked well. Special looked alright.

@Skotty_Payne Overall we did well. Gotta fix the TO's and the timeout issuesm but thats what preseason is for. Go Broncos!

@bohussey felt really good about first 20 minutes -- after that: YIKES

@Skotty_Payne the people on your board are pathetic

wow, so now we can take abuse from some anonymous no-name?

think i'll pass on reading skotty payne's tweets in the future-- especially if he thought the "special" teams looked okay last night. . . . blocked punts and fumbled kick returns are NOT okay!

I can't find it in me to get in to Twitter.

As a general rule, neither can I. I can't see myself ever using Twitter the way many people do:

I'm going out to dinner.
I just orderd a filet and twice baked potatoe
I am heading to the bathroom
I'm going to see xxxx at the movies
I'm heading home..

 Don't get me wrong, a lot of poeple really get into sharing the minute to minute happenings in their life via twitter, and some of the football guys like Scheffter, mix in a few funny/personal tweets that crack you up, but he mostly just posts a ton of good football info.

For me, I just follow Broncos/NFL reporters and bloggers, the Broncos players and front office, and the local Denver news (they put some non football stuff).

When follwing the reporters/bloggers, what you mostly get is breaking news before it hits wire services or forums.

The Broncos have started to trim their roster down to the 53-man limit.

On Friday, the team released center Kory Lichtensteiger, a fourth-round draft pick in 2008, undrafted rookie linebacker Lee Robinson and running back Marcus Thomas; offensive lineman Clint Oldenburg. The team is also working on an injury settlement to release offensive lineman Matt McChesney, who didn’t play in Thursday’s game because of a sprained ankle.

i'm disappointed to see lichtensteiger go. . . with scleuter already being a casualty, wiegmann at the end of his career and hamilton hitting free agency at the end of the year, we're pretty badly in need of some youth on the O-line. . . of course, you can fill OL depth with relatively inexpensive vets (like hochstein), but it's a cheaper and longer term solution to draft and develop your own reserves-- and it would be nice to groom a young, long-term starter for the center position, especially if they've got olsen penciled in to replace hamilton if he walks. . .

luckily you can usually find solid interior OL prospects from the third through about the fifth round. . . it's nice to take a top-notch prospect like mangold, khalil or mack, but you can get by with later round guys most times. . . i wish we would've taken a chance on a.q. shipley this year instead of schleuter. . . i'm guessing it's probably a position that we'll address next year in the draft. . .

I think the Lichtensteiger cut means that they plan on moving Hamilton to center when Weigmann retires and that the Broncos will be adding Schluester to the Practice Squad... Just a hunch, but with Lichtensteiger gone, I think we haven't seen the last of Schluester.

yea, i was kinda thinking schleuter to the PS also. . . my gut says we won't re-sign hamilton after the year, though-- never know, but it seems like doogie wants to move more towards a power-blocking scheme, and hamilton's pretty light in the pants for that. . . i doubt they'll pay vet money to bring him back when you can find solid OLs for cheap in the middle to later rounds of the draft. . . .

I suspect your correct on these judgments.

almost the first thing out of Joshes mouth was we are going to get bigger, faster and meaner than we have been..

I think Weigmann can deal with it as a true center with alot of smarts but he does not have many years let in him..

I have not been a fan of Hamilton for a few years after seeing him getting pushed back into the pocket like he was on roller skates..

I'm guessing that this OLINE will be about 12 pounds heavier than last years on the average.. next years more like 16-18 over 2008's..

I think that dennison will still be teaching how to ZBS although I see less of it now..

One thing to keep in mind is that McDaniels did draft Schlueter, so he must not have envisioned him as a pure ZBS guy... The pick always seemed a little strange knowing that McDaniels wants the O-Line to get bigger. Maybe it was a special teams pick that didn't work out (just based on the guys athletic ability)? I guess we'll ultimately find out by whether or not he ends up on the Practice Squad. If he does, it would appear that it's part of a plan to get him up to snuff...

This is starting to look like something that adds up.

A little more than a week ago, about the time Brandon Marshall was suspended by the Broncos for detrimental conduct, the New York Jets expressed interest in the star-crossed receiver.

Last week, the Broncos, who have health issues with their top two quarterbacks, Kyle Orton and Chris Simms, put in a claim on New England quarterback Kevin O’Connell.

The Detroit Lions, who have Matthew Stafford and Daunte Culpepper, put in a claim on O’Connell and were awarded the quarterback because their 0-16 record last season was worse than the Broncos’ 8-8 mark. Cleveland also put in a claim ahead of the Broncos.

And now O’Connell, a second-year player, is traded today to the Jets, who have already invested heavily in a young quarterback named Mark Sanchez.

Marshall, meanwhile, was at the Broncos’ facility today, although the team had to formally announce his suspension had been lifted and the corresponding roster move. The Broncos have meetings and a practice today as they begin formal preparations for their season-opener next Sunday at Cincinnati.

Even though this appears to be far more than a coincidence, an NFL source said the Broncos are not planning to trade Marshall.

Dam. I was hoping Brandstater would be starting opening day. Oh well.

http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_13279299

And for the first time in a couple of weeks, the Broncos believe they will have two veteran quarterbacks ready to practice this week.

Chris Simms will go first. He got injured first, so he's had more time to heal from his sprained left ankle. He will be taking snaps today during the Broncos' light practice at Dove Valley.

Kyle Orton and his stitched-up finger will be held back until Tuesday, when the Broncos have their first lengthy practice of the week.

If the stitches on his finger and laces on the football can meld into consistent spirals, Orton will start the season opener next Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Simms would become the backup and Tom Brandstater, the rookie who just finished off a gratifying preseason, will become the No. 3 quarterback.

Lack of reps with the first-team offense is the issue for Simms. Stitches are the issue for Orton. The index finger on his right throwing hand will likely remain sutured through the week of practice. There's also a chance the stitches won't be clipped before the game at Cincinnati.

Orton figures to go through some trial-and-error this week before finding his most effective comfort level. Wearing the type of gloves some quarterbacks wear in cold weather is a possibility.

If it's determined Orton should wait until his stitches are removed before he plays, then Simms will be counted on to make his first NFL start since his promising career was interrupted by a spleen injury he suffered in the third game of the 2006 season.

I think one thing people are ignoring is the possibility that the Jets are picking O'Connell up to learn about New England's offense. It seems I remember several recent New England cuts that the Jets have picked up, and it makes sense that they would want to pick his brain... Most teams carry 3 quarterbacks, so I believe it could be O'Connell, Sanchez, and Clemens.

Anyway - just a possible scenario that does not involve Marshall.

The Broncos formally turned in the paperwork to the league office Sunday to lift wide receiver Brandon Marshall’s suspension.

Marshall was at the team’s Dove Valley complex for meetings and took part in a practice as well.

The Broncos were also granted, by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, a one-day roster exemption before making a roster move. Marshall’s return gives the Broncos 54 players on their active roster.

The roster exemption expires Monday so the Broncos will have to make a move to get back to 53 players.

Does anyone feel that the Broncos ask for an exemption because there could be a trade brewing??????? If not, I would have thought that they would already have had the player picked out who would be cut when Brandon came back, or moreso, they would have made that cut yesterday. I think they would have asked for a roster exemption regardless of whether there is a trade in the works. While there could be a trade being discussed, I don't think the exemption would have anything to do with it. I have seen other teams get short roster exemptions in this situation. I think it is pretty standard.

Second-year center Kory Lichstensteiger, one of the Broncos’ notable roster cuts over the weekend, was claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Vikings. Lichtensteiger was the Broncos’ fourth-round draft pick in 2008 but at 289 pounds, he didn’t fit with the Broncos’ new offensive lineman prototype.

Tim Crowder was also claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Buccanneers, but wound up a free agent. Tampa Bay claimed more players than they had available roster spots so Crowder was not among those they kept.

Crowder, a defensive end out of the University of Texas, was the Broncos’ second-round draft pick in 2007.

Broncos Waive Jackson
September 7th, 2009 - 3:14pm by Zach Eisendrath

The Broncos on Monday announced that wide receiver Chad Jackson has been waived.

The move makes room for Brandon Marshall to be placed on the team’s 53-man active roster.

Jackson joined the club as a free agent on Oct. 27, 2008. The fourth-year player totaled eight kickoff returns for 162 yards and a 19-yard catch in four regular-season games with the Broncos.

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said receiver Brandon Marshall's attitude since his return from suspension has been "great." He said Marshall could absolutely make a significant contribution in Week 1 despite missing all of the preseason.

"Absolutely," McDaniels said.

The Broncos don't have too many choices if Jabar Gaffney (thumb) isn't ready to play in the regular-season opener. Marshall is clearly one of Denver's top three options at receiver, and McDaniels sounded prepared to make Marshall a big part of the team's plans in Week 1 if he shows he is ready.

"Look, he's a good football player," McDaniels said. "If he's ready to go and we go through this week of practice and feel that's the direction we want to play on Sunday, certainly we all know what he can do as a football player."

That was a heck of a play. When I saw that I immediately remarked that it was a veteran move, because if he touches the ball any earlier it would still be Raider ball.

How about this gem from Patrick Smyth, PR guy from Broncos:

@psmyth12 The 16 pts. allowed by the Broncos tie for the 3rd-fewest allowed by an NFL team through its first three games in the Super Bowl era ('66).

Lots of teams have started the season against 'weak' oppoents during that 43 year span, but only two other teams have given up fewer points in the first three games.

Pretty impressive, me thinks.

On a scale of 1to10 how tough is Josh on you? Orton says 10. And he likes it. Calls McD the best QB mentor in the business.

AND

# Orton admits that wearing the glove cost him 2-3 passes a game. The ball would often stick to the glove. You saw the difference last week.

# Often overlooked in Orton's job is how much he directs the Broncos running game. He actually changes the run at the line of scrimmage.

He's played extremely well. And while he doesn't sprint all over the field like a cornerback, a hamstring injury isn't something that's going to heal very quickly for him to get back.
