Before the 49ers and Ravens even stepped on the field for Sunday’s Super Bowl, the Denver Broncos already led the list of favorites for next season.

The Broncos opened as 5-1 favorites Sunday to win the 2014 Super Bowl in New Jersey (the final game of the 2013 season) at the MGM Race and Sports book in Las Vegas. The book has the 49ers as co-favorites with Denver at 5-1.

The Patriots and Packers follow at 7-1. And bringing up the rear as the longest long shots: the Chiefs are 150-1 and the Jaguars 200-1.

They should be the favorites.

New Jersey? Yikes....

As a player, not sure I would want to be in the big game. Seems almost like a punishment.

I wonder when the last time a team that opened as favorites won.

How often does the best team in any sport win. The playoffs are pretty much just a tournament and just like any tournament...the team that gets the hottest at the right time typically prevails. Championships are rarely won by the best team...just the best team that day

Recent history says it's going to be difficult for the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers to make it back to the Super Bowl.

No team has made a repeat appearance in the big game since the New England Patriots after the 2004 season.

With change being in the air, here are the five teams that have the best chance to be in the Super Bowl next season:

I guess it could happen again. No QB has ever won SBs with 2 different teams, so the odds are already stacked against the BRONCOS.

I usually agree with a lot of your takes Nomad but this could not be more off base. Usually SB winning QBs are really good players and tend to stay with their teams for a long time, giving few chances to win one with another team. Just because it has never happened in the past doesn't mean the odds of it happening in the future are lower. The following image shows why it's silly to say "well this has never happened before, so the odds are against us".

As pissed off as this team is right now.......this could be just like when we got bounced by Brunell. Steely-eyed focus the following year to win it all.

That's the truth! No one will deny that the Patriots were the better team during their two season when they played the Giants, it's just the Giants were the better team that day.

It comes down to who wants it more.

Or, what refs wont call holding against the Ravens on 4th down. :behindsofa:

Super Bowl favorites is laughable. ANYONE who has faith in this team when crunch-time hits in the playoffs is delusional.

The odds of Decker/Thomas remaining healthy another full season is low, John Fox is gutless, Manning can't throw vertically in cold weather, and the secondary is highly questionable.

This was the season and they choked it away.

Ya, cause they couldnt possible make good roster moves in the offseason, the offense will obviously be worse in Manning's second year, and having the same D coordinator for the first time in damn near a decade is a recipe for disaster. We are obviously screwed. Might as well not even watch football next year. :sodepressed:

You realize if not for one fluke play we are in the AFCCG with a home game for the super bowl right? Try to scale it back on the drama a bit.

Stud sometimes you go way over the top you would think Denver went 3-13 rather than 13-3. Our secondary was execellent all year long but from your post it sounds like they were nothing but hot garbage all year.

I don't put stock in the oddsmakers but I'm also not going to write the Broncos off because they had bad game.

Not being dramatic, not really that concerned at all about it. The stars lined up this season and Fox was too much of a ***** to capitalize on it.

Champ was abused by Smith the entire game, the Broncos had great injury luck all season (Willis the fumbler aside), the chances of that happening twice in Denver are rare.

Sure, the Broncos will still be very solid if Manning stays healthy and doesn't regress due to age, but odds are the breaks won't be so favorable.

Ok the Ravens won the Super Bowl after having several key players miss a good portion of the season. So what's your point? If the Broncos are as good as I think they are then have a good chance to make it to the big dance. Are you forgetting that the Ravens lost the AFCCG year the before?

Despite injuries and Von's suspension the Broncos are still favored to bring home the Lombardi.

I keep seeing and hearing reports that the Broncos are co-favorites to win the Super Bowl this season.

Not true. They are the prohibitive favorites. Here are the best odds to win the Super Bowl, as set by the Las Vegas Hotel & Casino sports book, which pretty much sets the odds for all of Vegas:

Broncos …. 5-1
49ers …… 6-1
Seahawks … 7-1
Patriots … 8-1
PACKERS …. 8-1

Jay Kornegay of the Las Vegas Hotel Sports Book said Tuesday that despite Von Miller’s six-game suspension, the Broncos will remain the Super Bowl betting favorites.

The Broncos remain at 5-to-1 odds to win the NFL title. And their over/under win total will stay at 11 1/2 games, Kornegay said.

A linebacker, even one as dominant as Miller, is worth less than half-a-point per game on the betting line, Kornegay said.

As low as 9 - 2.

I'm glad were still getting respect but this paints a big red target on our back.

Not surprised we are still the favorites. Vegas is smart. Von will be back by the playoffs and we will still be a highly seeded playoff team. His suspension might reduce our overall win total by 1, but overall that's not too significant.

Seeing how I don't think the Bengals will make the playoffs this year, I disagree. But, back on topic.

I think the Broncos are a top five team in the NFL. IF you're a top five team, I think you can make the SB and win it.

Considering how top heavy the AFC is with the Patriots, Broncos, and Texans it's pretty wide open. I actually think they can win the division depending on how fast the Ravens come along with their new starters and whether the Steelers can bounce back. If not there's always wild card.
