BRONCOS TRAVEL TO SEATTLE; FACE FORMER AFC WEST-RIVAL SEAHAWKS

The Denver Broncos, who lost a 17-16 decision in their preseason opener at San Francisco, take to the road for the second consecutive week to face the Seattle Seahawks (1-0) on Saturday at Qwest Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PDT, and the game will be broadcast locally on KCNC-TV (CBS 4) and KOA Radio (850 AM).

QUICKLY:


Seattle played in the AFC West with the Broncos from 1977-2001 before moving to the NFC West. Denver is 7-0 all-time against the Seahawks in the preseason.

Josh McDaniels was named the 12th head coach in Broncos history on Jan. 12 after spending the previous eight years with the Patriots. During that time, he was part of a franchise that won three Super Bowls, four AFC championships and six division titles

The Broncos are one of eight American Football League charter franchises celebrating their 50th season in 2009. Since their first year in 1960, the Broncos have posted the seventh-most wins in football with 403 victories that rank second among original AFL teams.
OFFENSE:

Rookie WR Kenny McKinley, a fifth-round pick from the University of South Carolina, caught a 52-yard touchdown pass against the 49ers en route to posting the ninth-most combined yards (130) in the NFL for Week 1 of the preseason.
RB Correll Buckhalter, whom Denver signed as an unrestricted free agent from Philadelphia in the offseason, ranks ninth in the NFL in yards per rush (4.9 / 138-682) during the last two years.
DEFENSE:

In their preseason opener against San Francisco, the Broncos held the 49ers to an average third-down attempt of 7.5 yards while posting four sacks and seven total stops behind the line of scrimmage.
OLB/DE Elvis Dumervil, who ranks sixth in the NFL with seven 2+sack games since entering the league in 2006, registered a sack last week in San Francisco.
SPECIAL TEAMS:

Rookie CB Alphonso Smith, a second-round pick from Wake Forest University, recorded a 27-yard punt return and a 27-yard kickoff return while handling return duties in his pro debut against the 49ers last week.
In his seven seasons as an NFL special teams coach, Special Teams Coordinator Mike Priefer has worked with units that have accounted for 14 blocked kicks and seven return touchdowns

SIMMS OFF TO STRONG START

Chris Simms made his Broncos debut in Denver’s preseason opener at San Francisco on Aug. 14 and registered the best passer rating (130.0) for the league through the opening week of the exhibition schedule (min. 14 att.). Simms completed 11-of-17 passes for 142 yards with two touchdowns, including a 52-yarder to rookie wide receiver Kenny McKinley with 1:52 left in the fourth quarter to bring Denver within one-point, 17-16 (two-point conversion failed).

DENVER 19, at SEATTLE 3 (Aug. 21, 2004)
The Broncos total 206 rushing yards, including 120 by RB Mike Anderson, in their win at Seattle... Denver posts five sacks on the night.

at DENVER 20, SEATTLE 3 (Aug. 29, 2003)
Denver, which did not play most of its starters, earns a 20-3 win against the Seahawks in its preseason finale... Broncos LB Donnie Spragan records a blocked punt and four tackles.

at DENVER 31, SEATTLE 0 (Aug. 29, 2002)
The Broncos close out their preseason with a 31-0 victory against the Seahawks, holding Seattle to 151 yards of total offense... Denver K Ola Kimrin converts a 65-yard field goal as time expired in the first half with that kick believed to be the longest field goal made in NFL regular season or preseason history.

DENVER 10, SEATTLE 7 (Aug. 5, 1990)
The Broncos defeat Seattle in Tokyo while playing in the American Bowl for the second time in club history... Denver QB Gary Kubiak completes 7-of-8 passes, including one touchdown, and fellow passer John Elway completes all eight pass attempts.

at DENVER 10, SEATTLE 7 (Aug. 5, 1983)
A 2-yard touchdown run by Broncos RB Sammy Winder in the third quarter proves to be the game-winning score for Denver in its victory against Seattle... Rookie QB John Elway makes his professional debut and completes 10-of-15 passes for 89 yards with one interception.

God, no! Steeleres are old time NFL from way back. They moved to the AFC during the merger along with the Colts and Browns.
