Second Annual Broncos Forums Hall of Fame Voting

Hi all, so I did this last season and most members seemed to enjoy it. I'm a little late on it compared to last year but this is as good a time as any to get it done. Like last year I hope the mods will keep this thread in Broncos talk as to drive more interest.

As a reminder, these 5 members made up the 2012 BFHOF Class. Please don't vote for them again this year.

Eligibility Rules:
You must have been a member for at least 4 years as of 1-1-2013 (So you must have joined by 1-1-09 or earlier)
You must have at least 4000 posts. (Avg. of 1000 per year)

Voting Rules:
Rank your top 5 posters IN ORDER
First place votes will be worth 5 points, second place 4 points, and so on and so forth
After voting concludes, the top 5 in points will be the Hall of Fame class of 2013
If there is a tie for 5th, all tied members will be inducted
You may NOT vote for yourself. A vote for yourself will not count.

Please PM your votes to me, BaileyTheBest. Any votes posted in this thread will not count. Voting will conclude on January 10, 2012 at 11:59 PM EST.

This was a big discussion last year too. It's just impossible to include every poster. And quality of posts is far too subjective to pick and choose certain posters to go on the ballot over others. The most fair way is to cut if off based on a certain number of posts and longevity on the board.

So, without anything in place to seriously distinguish 5 or so from the rest, the only thing you have left to vote on is popularity or other guidelines irrelevant to HoF voting. I'll be honest...just like last year, I voted for the people I know the best and communicate with outside of this forum.

You can say the same for any sport's HOF list. If you look at this year's NFL list you could make a case for 20 guys. Being selected when there are so many deserving candidates is what makes it special.

But...that's just my opinion.

Really? Because the biggest factors are winning and stats. Those are by far the two biggest and most deciding factors for HoF voting in sports. On occasion there may be a big influx of issues like steroid use in baseball, but that's about it.

Personally I view three categories evenly (at least I think I do). Broncos posting and good rationale for the posts, your activity in the 'fun' forums like the lounge, chit chat, things like that and your prescence. If you are missing does your absence prove to be noticeable, or if you rarely have a hiatus, would it clearly be noticed?

I can see people vote on humor, analysis, or anything that stems from human beings.

I've updated the spreadsheet again with all recent votes and the wave of votes I've received since last night have shaken up the top 5 quite a bit. We have surpassed 30 voters with still a day to go which is very encouraging. At this point the top 4 seems pretty secure but there are still several posters in the running for that 5th spot.

Which kind of turns it into a popularity contest. Like any community there are cliques and people that dont get along with others or hold grudges and those things will likely play into voter decisions. Mods are put in place to be impartial. I'm not saying they are perfect, but if they are worth their salt, then their votes would peobably be more fairly based than many of the "others". Pro sports HoF isnt voted on by the players...even though there is a players association. It's voted on by writers that know the history of the game and the history of the eligible players. Is it perfect? No. But I think if the players would be allowed to vote...the HoF's would look much different than they do today.

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the time and effort you put into this and it is afterall...just a HoF for a football forum. I just think the current format works out kind of like voting for student council or homecoming court in high school. So, I was just suggesting that maybe the mods votes counted a little more than the masses. Just my self-admittedly, over-critical opinion.

Well I respect your input but unless an overwhelming surge of support for changing the format arises I think it will stay more or less the same. I do plan on making a poll after this though with some proposed changes to see if there's anything a majority of people think should be done differently. I just made a survey outlining possible changes to the process for coming years, based on suggestions from various people and a few ideas of my own. It should take no more than 1-2 minutes to complete and would be very helpful in determining the direction this process should go in.

You can only sort members by post count. I could do it if you could sort by join date but even so that would make the list waaaayyyy too long. While having a post count minimum might not be ideal to some it's the only realistic way to compile any sort of list of nominees in an objective fashion.

That's still hard to do. It would take me much longer to compile the list that way. As for the new members who racked up 4000 posts quickly, they still wouldn't be eligible until being a member for 4 years, so I don't see that as much of a problem.

I think if the measure for write-in votes passes that would be a good middle ground. You still have the eligibility requirements that make compiling the list fair and easier on my end, but it also allows for posters who fall through the cracks of those requirements to still be recognized.

Perhaps. I think having a list of posters to look at makes it easier on the voters though. Compiling the list under the current format really doesn't take that long at all. Maybe 10-15 minutes tops since only a few new posters become eligible each year.

With 20 responses to the survey so far there a a couple of changes still up in the air and a couple that will definitely not pass. The measures to give weighted votes to mods, admins, and current HOFers are all a resounding no, about as I expected. Also looks pretty certain that changing the 4yr/1000 post rule will also be voted against.

As for ones that may pass, the write-in vote and when/if to take posters off the ballot are still pretty close.
