Yup. Unless you are 14 years old and just like top-40 pop songs, you will be hard pressed to find similar music tastes with most anyone. My influences are really strange, ranging from really being into new-wave and prog rock in the 80's and early 90's to listening to stuff like Asleep at the Wheel and Ronnie Milsap with my dad when we were camping. Its strange how our musical tastes evolve over time.

I'm kind of the same. My top 5 would be a mix of blues, country and metal.

It's pretty good. Put it on your "to do" list.

You'd better get on that dude, if you are a fan its easily their best effort in a decade. One of the few albums I can listen to front to back of theirs, I can't even do that with Zeitgeist.

I'm the same way though. I hear a lot of songs I like on Pandora at work but not enough where I want to run out and buy the whole album. Everything is so single focused in the music industry right now that all the smaller labels and artists are putting out the best work. Its just hard to track them down, I usually stumble on them from recommendations or internet music stations like Pandora, Grooveshark, etc.

Will do. Zeitgeist was OK. I don't listen to much music at work, because I'm not allowed to stream on my work computer. So outside of new country and new pop on the radio, I just don't hear new music.

I really miss 96.5 the Buzz in KC. They are freakin awesome.

And I don't know if you ever bothered, but as the other Oasis fan in America that I know of you should check out Beady Eye and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. Beady Eye is basically Oasis minus Noel, so if you add some tracks from his album to theirs you get a pretty solid rock album.

Noel is what I loved about Oasis...so I'll have to check this stuff out.

Thanks.

I always liked Noel too. True to the Oasis style, Beady Eye has better riffs and music, but Noel's album has much better songwriting. Hopefully they can get over it and get back together soon. I want a 20th anniversary Whats the Story Tour.

I forgot all about Smashing Pumpkins' new one. That one surprised me with how good it is.

By the way, if you click the album covers in my first post there are links to my favorite songs from those albums if you're at all interested in listening.

That's a shame. Not even Dinosaur Jr? I have a list of my top 30 from this year somewhere on my computer. Here are some links to stuff you and others might like:

Ty Segall is cool and makes awesome garage rock type music.
Zq4J9tl_Q_E

Japandroids is like fuzzy rock music. Kindof anthemy 80s post-punk stuff.
LGDy3CeRa1w

Cloud Nothings have a similar anthemy 80s post-punk sound so if you like Japandroids you'd probably like Cloud Nothings.
T_zRt_EmqoU

Kishi Bashi has a good song that is in some commercial, i'd be surprised if you weren't familiar. You should recognize it starting around 50 seconds:
0C6g7JfYztE

but if you like indie rock bands with like a 70ish bluesy sound to them, you should definitely listen to Dr. Dog cause they rule and I think you have a good chance of digging them:

I_RvcS0PDoA

there was also a few real good hip hop releases, some of which were released as free mixtapes if you want links.

I have too much time on my hands.

Sorry MO I meant to click reply and I clicked edit by mistake. That is why it shows I edited your post....

anyways...

I understand that, to clarify, I liked the new Matchbox 20 album this year but most of the time I still listen to 90's grunge.... Referencing our mutual like of the smashing pumpkins but neither of us have their new album. Hope that clears it up

Their support tour for Oceania was amazing. They had the same guy who did The Wall big screen graphics for The Who's recent tour do a big orb above the stage. During Tonight Tonight during the encore it played the original 1920's movie the music video was based on. Horrible audio on this, but you get the point:

My friend actually ran into their new bass player Nicole Fiorintino the day of the show at some restaurant. Lucky *******.

They sound a lot like Arcade Fire or even early Pixies stuff to an extent. Pretty good, I like it.

My top 5, in no particular order. I dont expect anyone to agree with me so dont bother pointing out how much the music I like sucks.

The Black Keys - El Camino (came out December 2011 but I consider it a 2012 album.

It grows on you. After the first listen, I thought it was decent, but after the next few, I found myself playing it over and over again.

In my opinion...HELL NO. It's not a bad record, but Chris Cornell hasnt had his 90's range for about 15 years.

It probably falls somewhere between Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and even a bit of his Zwan side project. It has a lot of synth guitar walls and good bass lines. This is one of my favorite tracks from the album:

no, it isn't quite the same but its a solid album. I seen them play earlier in the year and they did a 26 song set, Cornell may not have the range he once had but he is still a very, very great singer with a very strong voice.

speaking of new blood Texas blues (not that anybody was) I love me some Doyle Bramhall II and Gary Clark Jr. Can't wait for cross roads this year. Gonna try to make it to MSG for the show. Who's with me?
