He seems transfixed by this.

He seems transfixed by this.

So he can set the protection scheme for the whole offense. Pretty much every QB calls out "#xx is Mike!"

Because Mike sets protection/ blocking schemes. Basically long story short Manning its the reason why Manning is Manning and throws tds and guys like Orton always get sacked

Did anyone pay attention to football before Manning joined the Broncos?

Perhaps a better question is so why few other people are NOT interested in who is the middle linebacker. The QB and MLB are always keenly interested in each other, for complementary reasons. Hopefully we will someday have a good defensive AND offensive QB at the same time. Though at the moment I can't recall a team having great players at both positions since the '9ers had Steve Young and Ken Norton Jr.

Yes, but they didn't have these fancy microphones over the players heads so you could hear what the qb was saying at the line of scrimage.

I have never heard the chatter before the snap as well as this season. Either Manning is just loud or they tricked the mics out or something.

Hurry, hurry!

now I never noticed that they complimented each other. like after plays? hmm. that is peculiar and interesting

I kinda dont' get this thread. when he calls Mike out, is he pointing out a blocking scheme or something? serious question

It lets the O-line know they have to block that player if he rushes. Also it lets the RB know if anyone else comes the RB must block them.

QB's will also yell it out even if they are running the ball just to confuse the D.

He's pointing out the middle linebacker, also known as "Mike" so that the offense knows the protection. Mo would be able to elaborate more.

It doesn't always literally mean MLB. At times when troy palamalu is blitzing they will call him the mike so the o-line will block him.

They have been known to compliment each other; their complementary roles give each unique appreciation for the others accomplishments. ;)

If you listen carefully, Peyton says, "5x's a dyke". When the MLB says, "what did you say?" (or words to that effect), you can hear Peyton snickering when he answers, "5x's the mike!". Interpret as you will.

Manning is pretty amazing to do this with a new team

To me, this is the least impressive thing Manning is doing with a new team.

Almost every NFL QB does this.
Both Mannings, Brees, Brady, Romo, etc.

Romo

For whatever reason, the first time I read this I thought it said "porno"

Yes, other QBs are doing this but they are not like Manning. Manning is like Leonard Bernstein conducting the new york philharmonic. Hes the master

If its true, this is cool. If our high frequency receivers in our ears have been obliterated by loud rock music, maybe we cant hear Peyton calling the mike a dyke. lol

I think a better question is, why are people so interested in where the Broncos sleep the night before home games?

Well Peyton just may not want to be sacked that's all!

I always thought it would be pointless trying to figure out what they are saying when it is mostly gibberish. Every team has its own vocabulary, so I don't listen to it.

No they will all say "52 (or whatever) is the mike" and point at them
