It was there for the viewing audience to see, never mind the Broncos coaching staff: rookie running back Ronnie Hillman missed a block in pass protection that led to one of the two sacks against Peyton Manning last weekend in the Denver win at Baltimore.

The Broncos continue to work with Hillman (5-foot-10, 190 pounds) in that important facet of the game, Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy said Thursday.

It is, but it's not insurmountable. Darren Sproles is very good in pass protection, and he's 5'6" and 190lbs. Sure it would help if your back is 240 lbs, but reading defenses and understanding leverage can go a long way to overcome size disadvantages.

And his speed out of the backfield can be utilized on dump offs when everyone else is covered, and the blitz doesn't come. That little flair, dump off is a Manning favourite, especially this year.

Hillman has been doing better running ball as well.

Anyway, he has to get better with pass protection and I think he will.
