View Full Version : Matt Prater isn't right...

Tough to be negative or overly critique, but as good teams say... we're always looking for ways to improve.

Matt Prater has down right stunk the last 4 weeks, and I'm beginning to get concerned. Is this a slump or is he going to miss some big kicks late in the season or worse, the playoffs?

Perfect on FGA's through week 9, but the last 4 weeks are a completely different story.

7 for 12 (58%) - isn't going to cut it down the home stretch or in the playoffs. (only 1 miss was over 50 yards)

I'm hoping it's a slump, but as the team looks for ways to improve, this to me is a glaring area that needs improvement.

To be extremely fair a lot of kickers have struggled the last couple of weeks. Dont know if its just the weather playing wind games or if he has a sore leg or what. But it seems to be more widespread rather than just with Prater.

Its that new beer gut he has.

Kickers go through slumps, just like golfers and baseball batters.

He'll be all right.

Prater historically has had a tough run from 40-49 yards. It's mental and he'll eventually fix it. Hope it's sooner rather than later. The one game I'm concerned about is the Baltimore match. That one may be close and Prater needs to be right.

Prate has struggled of late, but I think it's along the lines of the golfer example that Fox gave. He's had few opportunities and has struggled of late. I had kind of hoped he would get more chances today, to get back in the groove.

I hope he comes out of it for the playoffs. Prater has been awesome for us. I had been pushing that he should be considered one of the best in the NFL. He has been in a slump of late. I hope he comes out of it.

Maybe his leg is sore from all the kicking off he has had to do this year :noidea:

As good as they've been this team still hasn't put it all together, seems like they're taking turns screwing up.......

It's so much easier to laugh when we're winning games with ease. God I love Peyton Manning.

I think Prater will be fine though, he proved last season he was clutch and fully deserved the extension he got.

I've been concerned about this the past couple weeks too... Seems like it is a mental thing and he just needs to get back on track. He has been so clutch for us many times, I'm not quite ready to give up on him.

...but seriously... I think he needs to lose the beer gut and get those tats removed. He's starting to look like a Raider fan.

With the exception of his nuckle ball last week, I think most of his misses have been just missed. I don't think he's off by much, probably has a slight mechanics issue he's battling.

I am not too concerned, werent most of the kicks missed 40+ range?

I think yesterday he missed one in the 30's, most of the others have been 40-49, I believe.

He is alright.

Most of his misses are, at least.

Why are Peyton Manning's kickers always alcoholics?

I think a few missed kicks happen from time to time. I think the best example is of golfers. They go through it, and it works itsself out. What else should we do other than say..."he'll work through it"... get another kicker? Thats not going to happen, nor should it.

It has been a problem for over a year now, last year he was 43% from 40-49 yards, this year he is 50% so far

isn't that a new tattoo on his right arm?

the ink is throwing off his balance, needs one on his left arm to balance

Thats what I'm thinking. I think the arrows on the tattoo are pointed in the wrong direction, that could have something to do with it.

Nit-picking, but missed another gimmie yesterday...

My main worry going into the playoffs, outside of Peyton being healthy is Prater's accuracy. He just doesn't seem "right".

Yeah, they were running out the clock and got stopped. Then decided to kick it on 4th and 14. I don't remember exactly, but I think there was only 3 or 4 minutes left.

Prater just didn't want to run up the score.

I was actually hoping they'd let big Os try to pick up the first down on 4th and 14. Why not at that point?

I think the player rushing from the right is what caused it. He ran untouched, and actually pulled up, but it looked enough to make Prater push it wide left. Don't think it was anything to worry about. Game was already well out of hand.

Except it is an ongoing problem with Prater and he apparently doesn't know how to fix it. So, that is a little worrisome.

back to prater...
he has been CARELESS !
ELAM also struggled in the 40-49 yard range! he had a better % in the 50 + rangetoo !
why, more focused !

its all abour focus and routine for a FG kicker.
I hope prater cleans up his routine. the plant foot and the position of his arms, should be part of his film study!
rich CARELESS!
when he kept his RIGHT arm against his body, he made every kick!
when that arm strayed, so did his kicks !
I hope we dont have anothe rich karlis on our hands !
