Tuesday's highlight:

After leaving the practice field Monday with a shoulder injury, right tackle Ryan Harris was back lining up with the first-team offense Tuesday. Harris was blocking for all 1,019 offensive snaps last season and no one does that without putting up with some pain. Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said he expects Harris to play in the preseason opener against the 49ers.

Lowlight:

The Broncos have done all they can to prevent Brandon Marshall from becoming a distraction by keeping him away from public view while he nurses a leg injury. But it may not be a stretch to say his trial Thursday in Atlanta could not only have a profound impact on his career, but on how the Broncos' fare this season. A favorable ruling could help Marshall start anew with no more legal cases in his future. A negative ruling could leave him vulnerable to a lengthy suspension meted out by commissioner Roger Goodell.

Quotable:

"I've looked better. I've had better bedheads."

— Backup punter Britton Colquitt on the ghastly haircut he received as part of a rookie hazing prank. Rookie quarterback Tom Brandstater and center Blake Schlueter were also victims of new looks.

The point after:

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels clarified Brandon Marshall's second-team standing on the depth chart, saying he was mandated to publish one relative to the preseason game Friday in San Francisco. Marshall will not play in the preseason opener at San Francisco. After missing the entire offseason to recover from hip surgery and then protest his contract, Marshall opened camp July 31 lining up with the second team. Jabar Gaffney was playing at his spot on the first team. Marshall had a terrific first practice, but before he could reclaim his place as the team's top receiver, he suffered a leg injury two days later and hasn't returned.

Camp facts:

The next practice begins at 5:30 this evening. There is a 2:30 p.m. practice Wednesday, which will be the final session open to the public before the Broncos play their preseason opener Friday night in San Francisco. The practices tonight and Wednesday afternoon will be held at the team's Dove Valley headquarters. Admission and parking are free.

as far as i know this trial is over the incedent for which brandon was already suspended.
i realize it will be up to goodell to impose further nfl punishment ,but if he can get the charges dropped or be found not guilty etc... i believe we will see a new brandon marshall. one that is ready to prove he deserves that fat new paycheck !(and i also think the broncos will give it to him):D

Here's what I'm afraid of.

This is going to trial because Marshall didn't want to cop a plea to a lesser charges, or the DA wouldn't deal because he's got good evidence. How many misdemeanor battery charges ever actually go to a jury trial? My guess is very few.

Marshall didn't want to cop a plea, or plead guilty because he knows it would result in more suspension time.

He will be found guilty on Thursday, and he'll be gone for several weeks. I think he has very little chance of being found not guilty.

agreed, however there are often plea deals made in the hours leading up to a trial (sometimes minutes)
that very well could be why marshall asked for and was granted leave of absence.to try and nip it in the bud as they say.
the major problem as you said being that he will likely have to at least plead guilty to a lesser charge (disorderly conduct...etc...)
and even that may give goodell the ammo to suspend him for 3-4 games.
or maybe the judge and goodell will give him "time served"*crosses fingers*

This week figures to be crucial to what the Broncos get from Brandon Marshall this season.

The greatest concern is his scheduled one-day trial Thursday in Atlanta on a misdemeanor battery charge. The incident occurred March 4, 2008, and alleges Marshall struck his former girlfriend.

That incident caused Marshall to serve a one-game suspension last season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, but league spokesman Greg Aiello has confirmed the wide receiver was told that a negative result from that charge could potentially lead to further discipline.

Thus, Marshall's immediate future could be left to the six-person jury that will be selected for his trial. Although the trial would not prevent Marshall from playing in the Broncos' first preseason game the next day in San Francisco, his leg injury will.

Marshall still hasn't returned to the practice field since limping off Aug. 2 with what appeared to be a leg injury related to his surgically repaired hip.

Marshall underwent hip surgery March 31, and full recovery is expected to take at least six months. The Broncos' leading receiver with a combined 206 catches the past two years, Marshall dominated the first camp session July 31 but went down two days later.

"Mentally, he's in all the meetings," Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said. "He sees all the film sessions, he sees all the corrections, so I'm not concerned with that. We still have over a month left for that to come into the fold, so he's got plenty of time."

the only things that can get him out of suspension time, is to be found not guilty of all charges..

if he pleads to a lesser crime he gets a vacation, if he is found guilty he gets a vacation..

from this point on he is at the mercy of Goodell, who gave him all he plans to for the last suspension..
