To understand how the NFL tilts its rules in favor of the offensive players, take the case of Broncos linebacker Von Miller.

On the first play of the game Sunday at Carolina, an unsuspecting Miller was pursuing a screen play when he got blown up on a blindside hit by receiver Steve Smith. The official initially threw a flag against Smith for unnecessary roughness on a defenseless player, but then thought better of it.

No penalty. Why? Was it partially because Miller is a linebacker?

The league just won't let defensive players play.

Do we really need to protect "superman" from hits? Isn't he protecting us from Lex Luther?

that's absurd. big vick's horsecollar was a bullshit call, to get fined for it is laughable. he barely tugged on the jersey before another player hit him out of bounds from the front... these fines are out of control.

Ridiculous.

But because a Broncos (or two) got fined, I'm sure Zam will be okay with it and think it's a legitimate call while the rest of us think it might have been a little ticky tacky.

This is why we need to move Bailey to Safety. :coffee:

It was a horsecollar. I didn't think it was when I first saw the play, thought it was just the jersey...but in the replay, it clearly was a horsecollar.

Well, Von clearly hit the QB below the knees, so I'm not sure what the fuss is about. It was clearly against the rules. Not saying I like the rule, but it is what it is.

That's insane. Dobbins gets $30k for his hit and Miller gets $21k for this?

Von's violation was worth 2/3 the fine of a hit that left a QB concussed?

What a bunch of bullshit.

I dn't think that has anything to do with the cost of the fine.

I saw this the other night and thought it was bull spit. When will the NFL institue fines for NFL players. As of now it has been all defensive fines and I would think at some point the NFLPA or a player will sue the league based on that. AP is lethal when running the ball and he uses his helmet as a weapon. Other offensive players do the same. Or does the health and safety kick the NFL is on only apply to Offensive players?

Not going to read through the rules for the NFL, but I believe you can use your helmet against a runner. Helmet to helmet hits are legal once it's a running play IIRC.

that is my impression too. But you can not launch off feet helmet to helmet either way IIRC.

Someone could have gotten hurt. Sprained ankle. Turf toe. Rug burn.

I agree. You'd think the NFLPA would adequately represent defensive players also. There are offensive players getting fined here and there, but they get away with it way more than defenders do. At times, it even seems like they're reaching on the fines for defenders.
