SAN DIEGO – A Chula Vista man says he was knocked unconscious because of the NFL jersey he was wearing outside Qualcomm Stadium right before Monday Night Football between the Chargers and Broncos.

“Someone spilled their beer on me, and the next thing I noticed I woke up in a hospital the next day,” said Eric, a 22-year-old Broncos fan who didn’t want to give his last name.

Eric said Chargers fans began harassing him because he was wearing his Broncos jersey just before the start of the game. Within seconds someone hit him on the back of his head, and he fell to the ground and hit his head. He spent two days in the hospital. Wednesday, he returned home to begin the healing process.

i went to bronco games in SD back in the 8o's. the only thing i had to fear back then was some bad sushi.
Times have changed1 OTL just did a report on fan violence at NFL games.
my motivation to attend a live game seems to dwindle every year.

Anytime I go to a opposing teams stadium, I never ever where the jersey of my team that is playing there. It just isn't worth the risk, I may wear a polo shirt with the team's predominate color but that's the extent of it.

I went to a game at Qualcomm on a Monday night with a good friend, both of us wore Bronco jerseys, rode the train, etc. I even talked trash for a bit. No problems.

a few physcos ruin everything.

In Stl. The Crips wear St. Louis Blues jerseys and the Bloods rock Cardinals jerseys.

Now in certain school districts they have banned jerseys because of incidents.

A place that you wouldn't think would really hate Denver is Cleveland. I went there for my first game, 2006. Apparently they haven't forgotten 1986. Those guys are bitter.

I always represent when i go to the Ravens games. Even when we arent playing them. Ive had people talk trash to me the last couple of years but i just smile and let it roll off my back. I lot of them are drunk and just being stupid so the best thing is not to be drawn in by the BS. Not sure if this guy was getting into verbal smack talking or what but i guess every stadium can be different.

I've worn mine to games in Dallas...but Cowboy fans (and most Texas sports fans) are so fair-weathered, they'll almost ask me where they can get one by the end of the game if we win.

That's because St. Louis sucks.

Ive seen my fair share of fights at games,

BUT

it usually happens when the visiting team fan acts like a moron.

People don't take swings just because of your jersey.

They give you shit.

Big difference.

I've been pretty lucky I guess. I go to at least one game a year in Denver and I've been to Arrowhead (which was a blast just for the tailgating, we just wandered around and people were giving us free food. Cool place!) and to the Super Dome which was pretty surreal. Never got crap for wearing Broncos gear, but had fun talking crap with other fans. My trick is to keep that type of stuff going at the beginning. Both times I was at a visiting stadium the Broncos won. Once they got up on the opponent I didn't get all dumb and start crap with the home fans. I would clap while sitting but that's about it. I wasn't standing up screaming "DEFENSE!" like I would at a home game. You have to respect the home stadium, especially when your team is doing well.

I've seen a few near fights at Mile High, but nothing crazy. The best ever was in the 2005 AFC Divisional game when some dork was holding up his Patriots flag and blocking the view of about 4 people behind him. One of the guys took the flag, pretended to wipe his butt with it and threw it back at the guy. They stared at each other for a good long minute then they both started laughing. The guy got the point and sat down the rest of the game.

In incidences like these, I think that's it's more than rival bitterness, or about the level of fandom at all. I bet most of these perps dont' even like football when it gets right down to it. to react like that? theres something deeper than fan reaction there imo anyway. As for the Cleveland experience, what team thats' been aroud hasn't had their ass handed to them and been embarrassed?

As the resident Black Panther...let me explain.

We understand our place in the white man's stadiums. Since it takes 3 welfare checks to buy just one ticket, we tend to appreciate out time there and try not to get kicked out and bring attention to ourselves. We let the drunk honkies beat on each other so that we can move into their seats when they are escorted out. It is only after the game that we'll beat anyone for their jersey or sneakers. Even then, it has nothing to do with being a fan of another team. We just want their stuff for ourselves.

That reminds me. My first time in Denver, shortly after entering the city limits, I saw a Tahoe/Suburban with a Raiders sticker on the back. It was pretty saddening.

its the commisioners fault! he is reducing the violence on the field and fans feel they need to compensate.

Never been a visitor at a football game. Been to a bunch of Cardinals games wearing Mets colors and other than some good natured ribbing/trash talk (both directions), never had any problems.

I went to a game with Crush05 a few years ago (during the Jake days) and we wore our colors. Some of the Black Hole folks were actually pretty cool, but we had two incidents that we thought was going to cost us. Both times, we were saved because we also took his son (who was only 9 or 10 at the time). Seriously, the Raider fans were going to beat the crap out of us, but they said they would control themselves because of the boy.

At least they had some morals, eh?

Here's a pic of me in the parking lot with a few of the Black Hole characters.....

Ive only been to the Thanksgiving Den-Dal game in 01 cause we were part of the pregame and halftime show. The soldier next to me started talking trash to the fans behind us cause he was a Packers fan. I apologized to the people behind us just cause it was rude and we were winning the game.
