View Full Version : For Denver Broncos, no-huddle offense can't exclude threat of run

Sifting through the confetti tossed after the Broncos' first win of the season, it's fairly clear the team is going to need more from its running game.

No-huddle can't be synonymous with "no running." If it is synonymous, the Broncos will have plenty of awesome passing statistics to discuss while the playoffs are going on without them.

There is a perception that as the Broncos work the no-huddle more and more — and let's just say having a quarterback like Peyton Manning makes that a fairly attractive option — they somehow also have to be a team with a 70-30, 65-35 split throwing the ball.

It's not true and can't be.

Who runs on Pittsburgh?

Broncos run game is still one of the stronger parts of this team.

Apparently we were able run effectively. We didn't pile up a lot rushing yard but what we did do was effect.

With Grimes out.....find the mismatch and throw the hell out of it.

Not worried about running game....you need to have a lead or they will pin their ears back like they did against KC.

400 yards in passing equals a win.

I have no idea what Legwold is trying to say in this article. The only concern he really points to is that our Oline won't hold up to a pass heavy game plan, breaking down and getting PFM injured. But how in the world does he make the leap to the conclusion that the shift to no huddle on Sunday meant an abandonment of the running game? Then he wanders off on a chat about play action and then just ended up a drooling mess in the corner after that. Fox is committed to balance, but that doesn't require 200 plus on the ground to be effective. With Peyton at the healm, 3.9ypc is enough to be very effective. And aginst teams with less stout run D's than Pitt, that ypc will likely go up dramatically. Try again Legwold, you can do better.

Make it a 60-40 split, at worst.......
