View Full Version : Only Pats and Pack are bigger Super Bowl favorites than Broncos

The wise guys are apparently sold on Peyton Manning. According to the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, the Broncos’ odds of winning the Super Bowl have improved to 10-to-1, which is tied for third with San Francisco and Houston.

“”We’ve had a run of money on the Broncos,’’ said Jay Korengay, who heads the sports book of the Las Vegas Hotel.

Only the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers have better odds. The Broncos’ Super Bowl odds have varied since the end of the 2011 season. Their odds were 60-to-1 before signing Peyton Manning on March 20, jumped to a tie for fifth at 14-to-1 the day after the Broncos signed him, then fell as low as a tie for ninth at 20-to-1 amid reports Manning’s arm strength was in question during the first OTA in May.

wow. I think this is Vegas trying to lure in some betters. I obviously have high hopes for this team, but those high hopes are based on improvement and knowing we'll be a much better team now tht we have a real QB behind center. But, although I would LOVE it to happen, I just don't think we are ready THIS year. Too many new things, new players, and new coaching.

Too much pressure now on the Broncos to be SB winners and I don't like it.

All we did was sign Manning as a free agent and now the world expects us to win it. I was hoping for everyone to take us lightly and stay under the radar. We do have a very tough first 6 games and if we lose a few of those then teams might then take us lightly again come mid season . If we start off 3-3 then I think we will win another 7 games down the road putting us at 10-6, enough to win the division. Then go from there....just get to the playoffs and anything can happen is what I think.

Sounds like the number is moving because of bettors, not necessarily because that's where the casino set it.

A lot of people evidently don't realize the NFL=/=Madden. It takes more than a beat up HoF QB and a couple Pro Bowl blitzers to turn a dog team (and we were next to last two years ago) into a champion. I wouldn't trust any of our LBs except Woodyard to cover most slot receivers, TEs or FBs, and wouldn't trust him against the best. Our offensive line MIGHT have decent tackles IF Clady's fully healthy and Franklin's ready to start his sophomore year, but the interior line is garbage, and even Kupers eventual return can't solve our problems at C and LG. Put that with a Division winners schedule and, while there's cause for optimism about our secondary and receiver corps, this doesn't look like a championship team. They overperformed last year and I'm not giving up on them, but low expectations prevent disappointment.

Which is how that usually goes, but it suggests the bettors think Vegas underestimates our odds. Funny thing, Vegas usually makes more money off gambling than bettors do. ;)

Not expecting SB this year myself for the Broncos, hoping but not expecting.

I don't really understand betting/odds, but Hunter Thompson suggested Vegas knew about sports than the media or fans.

This fits my thinking exactly. 10-6 and a playoff birth. From there, anything can happen.

well, that makes 3 favorites and only 2 teams can be in the superbowl so I think the whole thing is pretty stupid

Personally...I dont even have us in the playoffs this year.

I think the Super Bowl hype revolves around the Manning factor. but we are experience and a few key players away from seriously contending. My guess is our big run comes in 2014.

I was listening to someone on ESPN the other day and said the BRONCOS go 2-6 their 1st 8 games only beating the Raiders and Bengals. I'm not sure what the schedule is.

The schedule looks pretty brutal.

Its Brutal for sure. Pitt, Atlanta, Houston, Oak, NE, SD, BYE... then Saints.... crap.

I don't remember a season where the opening game is sooo important, and we aren't playing a beat up Pitt team this time.

I found a schedule and it does look tough..........http://www.denverbroncos.com/schedule-and-events/schedule.html

I think when the predictions thread came out, I had the BRONCOS going 9-7 without looking at the schedule. I don't know perhaps the BRONCOS can surprise us these first 8 games.

Not that it makes a ton of difference, but that OL is pretty beat up. 2 of their youngsters they were counting on as starters will be out

I'd be careful with these crazy pipe dreams nomad. tone it down a notch at least or you're going to be pretty disheartened at the end of the season.

This is my problem: Peyton Manning turns 38 at the start of 2014 Even if our line can keep him in one piece that long (and since everyone knows Manning must be rushed up the middle, where we have NOTHING, that is no guarantee) it is hard to imagine him playing that season. Meanwhile, he's consuming one-sixth of our salary cap which should (but therefore won't) be spent on FA hired guns to win that team a Super Bowl.

Yeah, because none of the elite quarterbacks have ever played at that age.

Oh wait.

yeah Mo, I'm with you. I'm like WHAT? how is the number of birthdays that the man has celebrated in any way an issue? age is just a number

Name three 38 year old QBs that were anything like "elite," however well they played previously. Elway was probably the best of the lot, but even with a stellar team (including his offensive line) he hung it up after that season anyway. If age were just number Montana would still be playing, but I keep thinking of his "career" in KC and shuddering....

Holy shit, Montana was damn good in KC. Besides that, Montana took a beating during his career, it was a minor miracle that he lasted as long he did.......
