When Jeff Rodgers arrived in Denver as the Broncos' new special-teams coordinator on John Fox's staff in 2011, he couldn't help noticing David Bruton on game video.
"It jumps off the tape immediately how fast he is," Rodgers said. "On kickoff-return coverage, I don't know if there has been a kickoff in the last three years where he's not been the first guy down the field."
As the Broncos draw closer to setting their season-opening roster, it certainly pays to get noticed on special teams, where Bruton has played since they drafted him in the fourth round in 2009. He might be fighting for a spot as the No. 4 safety, but Bruton is at the top of the special-teams depth chart on every return and coverage unit.
