The Denver Broncos are reportedly going to investigate former Jets’ safety Jim Leonhard.

CBS Sports reported that Leonhard will visit the Broncos on Saturday. He completed a visit with Buffalo on Friday. The report said Leonhard is keeping his options open.

Clearly, so are the Broncos. Denver has been impressed with second-year safety Rahim Moore. He had been competing with fellow second-year player Quinton Carter, who has been injured. Mike Adams is the other starter. Leonhard has a reputation for being a tough player. He could add good veteran depth at the spot if Denver signs him.

It was more than a hamstring Quinton Carter tweaked during an indoor practice last week. The second-year safety also suffered a knee injury that required a minor arthroscopic procedure to repair. Carter will be out two weeks, which means he will miss the Broncos' first two preseason games against the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks.

Isn't Leonard a pretty good returner too? That alone might be worth picking him up.

So is that a "yea" or "nay" for picking up Leonard? We wouldn't have to convert him to Safety, it's his natural position. ;)

You do realize that no one has said that we should play withOUT a safety, right?

Im all for signing this kid. He's a gamer and has a good chance of making the team.

Should we just ignore every other position until we figure out the Safety position?

With that being said, please say no to Leonard.

Isnt he the Jet that got burned around the corner by Tebow? That dude is slow.
Ok, my bad. It was Eric Smith #33 who got owned by Tebow...

John Elway ‏@johnelway

We've signed free-agent safety Jim Leonhard. He'll add experience and depth to our secondary.

No doubt. I hope he can go. He's got a tough attitude and some experience. If he can comeback 100% then this could be a huge help.
In 2010, the Jets were 9-2 and 17 points allowed with Leonhard , without Leonhard the jets were 2-3 and 23 points allowed.
Here he is Mic'd. Check out the gratitude from the Bills player to Leonhard for helping his career. Very Impressive.

Not sure how I feel about this. If he's not playing special teams

If healthy, this is a good signing. He's a poor man's John Lynch. He's always around the ball and plays smart.

Free or strong safety? Will he be starting opposite Mike Adams and ahead of Moore and Carter?

from article:

Don’t be surprised if the Broncos also use Leonhard as a punt returner. Currently, starting receiver Eric Decker is the Broncos’ best punt returner but they’d rather keep him busy catching Peyton Manning passes. Leonhard had at least 20 punt returns in the three seasons from 2008-2010.

Leonhard is a solid reliable punt returner. If Moore goes down with injury or plays like he did last season, Leonhard can step right in there as well.

New Bronco safety Jim Leonhard is still rehabilitating his surgically repaired knee and was placed on the team’s active physically unable to perform (PUP) list Sunday.

Since I trust Rahim Moore about as far as I can throw Ty Warren, this is fine with me. Competition is not a bad thing, and neither is depth.

this all just re-inforce my concern about the safety position and our ability to cover a TE and stop the run.
our 7 other safeties compelled the powers that be to hire a guy destined for the PUP list.
