Friends of Jessica Redfield (Ghawi) have setup a scholarship in Jessica's name that they will use to help one or more people achieve their dream of becoming a journalist.

This is supposed to be the official fund setup on behalf of her family.

They ask that you donate if you can, and if you can't, that you help spread the word.

This one is setup and promoted by her brother and local Denver radio hosts like @PeterBurnsRadio (Peter Burns).

I'm comfortable this is legit, and did some checking before posting it.

Just thought I'd give an update. They've raised $32,000 to date and are working on getting the proper foundation site and other details ironed out.

They now have the official site -

I found this site from a link on the Denver Nuggets website, and I am sure the Nuggets would not put that link on their site, if it was not legitimate.

That's the same site/page I linked to, which is the fundraising page on indiegogo. However, they are working on getting a dedicated .org website created for the foundation.

Here's a nice article about Jessica written today following her memorial service in San Antonio:

SAN ANTONIO — Jessica Ghawi fell down — a lot.

Many of the family and friends who paid tribute to her Saturday at a memorial service here at Community Bible Church recalled the numerous times when she wasn't so adroit of foot, such as when she slipped on ice in high heels while interviewing a hockey player or the time she tripped and fell into former San Antonio Spurs star David Robinson as an intern for a radio station.

What everyone who knew and loved the 24-year-old Aurora theater shooting victim will always remember aren't the many times she fell, but how she always got right back on her feet.

Whether it was trying to make it in the dauntingly tough, male-dominated business of sports journalism or being laid off as a waitress from a local sushi restaurant just days before her death, Gwahi was figuratively knocked down plenty during her one year of living in Denver.

But the tenaciously ambitious, self-described "red-headed spitfire from Texas" was a fighter, and nothing was going to keep her from pursuing big dreams.
