Lets hope we can get something done that makes sure Brandon doesnt get paid less than at least Keary Colbert and Royal. His play has dictated that he get more.....his character hasnt. He played through the hip last year for the sake of the Broncos. Lets hope a compromise can be reached.

As the Brandon Marshall (http://www.denverpost.com/topics?topic=Brandon%20Marshall&searchTerm=Brandon%20Marshall) holdout saga becomes increasingly agitated, Broncos coach Josh McDaniels (http://www.denverpost.com/topics?topic=Josh%20McDaniels&searchTerm=Josh%20McDaniels) has attempted to send a message of peace.

Marshall (http://www.denverpost.com/topics?topic=Marshall&searchTerm=Marshall)'s agent, Kennard Mc-Guire, made an aggressive negotiating move Tuesday by telling Fox 31 News that Marshall requested a trade during the wide receiver's one-on-one meeting with Broncos owner Pat Bowlen last Friday afternoon.

The meeting occurred after Marshall skipped the mandatory minicamp session that morning. Marshall later was spotted carrying packed boxes to his car before leaving the team's Dove Valley headquarters.

"Mr. Bowlen has said that ownership will do everything in its power to accommodate his wishes," McGuire told the television station.
Marshall, too, appears to be preparing for his exit from Denver (http://www.denverpost.com/topics?topic=Denver&searchTerm=Denver). He wrote a new entry on his blog Tuesday afternoon in which he said, "Change is probably best" for him personally and professionally.

"It's hard leaving an organization ran (sic) by one of the best owners in all of sports, and someone who's been there for me through my ups and downs," Marshall wrote in an entry titled "Clearing the Air."

"The hardest thing was hearing Mr. B wish me luck in the future, but we both came to the conclusion that this is probably the best thing for me to grow on and off the field." Marshall went on to thank Denver fans.

Despite the strong words from Marshall and his agent, there has been no indication the Broncos will seek to deal Marshall, who is unhappy with his contract that will pay him $2.198 million this season, the final year of his deal.

"We met after Pat's meeting with Brandon and we are going to continue our dialogue with Brandon and his representative," McDaniels said. "We look forward to having Brandon at training camp."

Bowlen declined a request seeking comment. Marshall has been one of the NFL (http://www.denverpost.com/topics?topic=National%20Football%20League&searchTerm=NFL)'s top receivers the previous two seasons, when he combined for 206 receptions, 2,590 yards and 13 touchdowns.

And, yes, he is affordable. According to a USA (http://www.denverpost.com/topics?topic=United%20States&searchTerm=USA) Today study, there were 58 receivers in the NFL who drew more than $2.2 million in salary and prorated bonuses last year, including Eddie Royal, Brandon Stokley (http://www.denverpost.com/topics?topic=Brandon%20Stokley&searchTerm=Brandon%20Stokley) and Keary Colbert (http://www.denverpost.com/topics?topic=Keary%20Colbert&searchTerm=Keary%20Colbert) of the Broncos.

Marshall's contract is more reflective of the fact he was a fourth-round draft pick than his production, although because he was named to the Pro Bowl last season, he did get a bump this season from $535,000 to nearly $2.2 million.

Conspiring against Marshall as a long-term Broncos investment, however, is a hip injury that he had surgery for April 1, and off-field legal problems that potentially leave him vulnerable to the league's personal conduct policy.

If Marshall doesn't report to the Broncos by Aug. 12, roughly two weeks after training camp commences, he could risk forfeiting not only $105,000 of the prorated signing bonus he received as a rookie in 2006, but a fourth year of service time, which would put him another year away from unrestricted free agency.

Marshall, who already is facing a $35,329 penalty for skipping the team's three-day mandatory minicamp last weekend, would also be facing stiff fines for each day he misses at training camp.

The NFL owners' decision last year to reopen the collective bargaining agreement also is working against Marshall's desire for a long-term deal. Under the former CBA rules, players such as Marshall could have become un-restricted free agents after their fourth season.
But with the owners essentially vaporizing the CBA for the 2010 season, fourth- and fifth-year players would be subject to restricted free agency, which essentially limits them to one-year contracts.

Look at this video clip from back in May. This tells you that his hip is fine, and this is completely about money. Brandon looks to love Denver, look forward to McDaniels, and he seems eager to move forward.

Now, if something happened with his hip after this interview, then it would explain the sound bites of his agent chirping about the health of Brandons hip. If something did happen, we certainly didnt hear about it in Broncoland.

Get a contract conducive to a compromise that makes us all happy, and lets move forward.

I am just so sick of this kind of crap. I always took pride in the fact that Broncos players generally were happy and watched other teams deal with this kind of crap.

Oh well, I guess we are stuck with what we have until either results on the field prove McD to be a great coach or until he is handed his walking papers. Either way, it is just a wait and see situation for us fans.

I think that's a result of not really having any leaders in the locker room.............in years gone by Al, or Shannon or John or Rod would have had a quiet word in the shell like........

Whilst Dawkins is a good signing, and will provide leadership, the guy needs a chance to get his feet under the table.

While I still buy into the "play out your contract" mindset, from his perspective you can see how it is hard to deal with the fact that at different times last year there were 8 or more receivers on the roster making more money then him.

Clifford Russel, Eddie Royal, Nate Jackson, Glenn Martinez, Brandon Stokely, Edell Shephard, Darrel Jackson and Ceary Colbert.

**Full disclosure, since Brandon Marshall received a $3,000 roster bonus of some kind, he did make $3,000 MORE than Glen Martinez, so technically martinez was the lowest paid receiver on the team last year, not Marhsall and Martinez being tied for that spot.

I can see that, and from his production he does deserve a raise...................

However coming off a second consecutive off season surgery, and yet another police incident, and with a court case upcoming isn't exactly the best time to be doing it.

Here is a video - Gary Miller speaking on the Marshall situation. Gary stated that when Marshall put up what he did on his website - he did NOT put up the following - which Bowlen said to him:

"Stay out of trouble and perform well on the field, and he will get his deal right here next year"

Miller's take - Brandon Marshall wants to leave so he can get his money right now.

Bowlen is saying prove you still have the skills on field after the injuries and trouble is something of the past and I guarantee you'll get your money and what many of us have been assuming here. I believe it would take but until midseason to get a new contract for the fella. I know you've done a good job in the past but you've nullified that with your off field antics and on top of that, you have questionable injuries. I can see where Bowlen is coming from, but he being brainwashed by McDaniels:coffee:

Shanahan was well known for expecting players to play out their rookie contracts. He 'might' extend them prior to their last year, but rarely. I think it is really reaching to call this McDaniel's brainwashing.

McD has made enough mistakes that we should probably focus on calling him on those, rather than the imaginary ones.
