I was tied up and didn't get a chance to dial in. Did anyone listen? If so, can you give us the cliff notes version?

Thanks

That's good news, I keep hearing about how the stadium will be empty because the Broncos got older at QB.......

I got in and asked a question, even though I'm sure I stumbled a flubbed my way through it. I asked if there had been a palpable change in the atmosphere around the team since it went from a you, up and coming team to an AFC favorite overnight. The part of Elway's answer that surprised me the most was how up front he was about how when he came back to the team two years ago, the franchise was in the worst state he'd ever seen (or something to that effect).

just heard your question. Good question and good job asking it. You even got him to use his now famous "pull the trigger" comment.

For an hour Tuesday, season-ticket holders had their turn at Broncos coach John Fox and executive vice president John Elway. Approximately 6,000 fans listened in, with the questions coming from supporters who were first-year ticket-holders to one who had a season ticket in the franchise’s first year, 1960.

A few notable revelations from the conference call follow:

1. DEREK WOLFE: HE’S THE ONE THAT THEY WANTED.

Elway told one fan that the rumors that the Broncos moved back expecting another prospect to fall were untrue, and that they had defensive tackle Derek Wolfe in mind all along:

Yea, Andrew did a good job in that piece. It's worth the read.

Reading between the lines and the art of "Not stating the obvious".

Rahim Moore. Moore has been benched. What can you say? "We were disappointed in Moore last season and brought in Adams at $4 million a year to start ahead of him?"

But when Fox was asked about Moore on Tuesday, he said this:

“He’s a guy that we have not lost faith in by any means. He’s worked very hard and is ready to roll. He’s actually had a good offseason. He gained some strength and weight.”

Yes, you can interpret this as Fox trying to rebuild the confidence of Moore, which appeared shattered by the end of the season, when he appeared tentative and overcompensated by taking late-hit penalties at Buffalo on Dec. 24 and at New England three weeks later.

Hitting the weights and adding strength can only help the 196-pounder, so that’s a positive sign. But the key to Moore’s development rests in his incorporation of what he learns in the film room. Moore is highly intelligent and possesses one of the locker room’s brightest minds, but often played as though he was trying to process too much in front of him, as if he was trying to bite off not only more than he could chew — but more than he needed to chew.

Adams’ presence affords Moore time to develop, but the Broncos need their 2011 second-round pick to at least become their top backup safety this year.

Translation: "We haven't given up hoping that we didn't make a hideous blunder in taking Moore in the 2nd round last year", but he needs to "add strength" and regain his confidence. He actually regressed last year.

I remember similar things being said about Jarvis Moss after his rookie year. They aren't going to give up on a high-round draft pick after one disappointing year.

The prognosis for Nate Irving is even worse. They just gave Joe Mays a $4 million contract which means that Irving is relegated to the bench for the indefinite future.

FOX: “He’s a growing player. He’s definitely got the athleticism and ability. He played behind middle linebacker Joe Mays last year and I think we’re looking for big things this year. He seems to have done a good job in the meeting rooms as well as in the weight room this offseason. I’d love to hear from him a lot this year.”

Translation: "I'd love to see him make some plays this year." Well, no expectation that he actually WILL make "a lot" of plays this year, especially since he won't be playing much.

The coaches can't say anything bad about a player at this point, but their carefully crafted comments about Moore & Irving do not bode well for either player.

They might as well have come right out and said: "We hired high-priced veteran FAs at both these positions and unless Irving and Moore play a lot better this season they won't be around for long."
