I dont know how many passes were thrown his way, but check out the highlights of Quinn catching the ball and running after the catch on these few plays.

If he only caught the ball 12 times, Im wondering.......why the heck didnt he have more?

He looks pretty impressive to me. He looks like a tackle.

I'd have to agree with the 'looks pretty impressive' comment. :salute:

One thing of note: Carolina TEs last year only had a total of 15 receptions.

Total.

Im not sure how many times they targeted the TE, but it would seem to me that TE was not a focus of that offense.

Seems he was unfortunately stuck with the "Graham curse". When you are a TE that run and pass blocks exceptionally well, then you are used to protect the QB an open holes for the RB. Catching the ball is 3rd on the list and usually is not employed even if you have soft hands. Hopefully they can alternate Graham and Quinn in the blocking schemes and get either one out in pass plays. Those two are pretty big targets for Orton to throw to.

Tar Heels relied on Quinn, as they have with a lot of their tight ends to be blockers not only in the passing game, but with their running attack as well. Quinn made it apparent at the combine through the gauntlet drills, etc. that he had soft hands and could catch as well. I questioned this pick at first, but realized that not only is he a perfect fit for what McDaniels wants to do in the running game; but he can catch as well. Considering Scheffler's status (Free Agent after this year) with the team, it was wise for Denver to trade up and get a guy to replace him if he walks, or gets traded prior. I don't even want to hear the whining about value; when it has been well documented that he was regarded as a 3A player on most teams boards.

Which teams have said that?

Which teams have said that?

I dont remember where but it was reported that we wouldn't have had another chance to pick him if we didnt do it in the 2nd rd.

He is a beast, I like this kid. Its actually hard to dislike any of the picks. We could argue on where they were picked, but the bottom line is that they all seem like pretty damn solid.

Which teams have said that?

Every year a week prior to the draft, ProFootballWeekly releases its draftboard which is comprised of their own personal feelings and rankings of players; combined with their inside information on the draft boards of teams' War Rooms that they had access to. A recent article was posted in here in which Texans GM Rick Smith, stated that Quinn was their hopeful third round selection, and suggested that there were other teams interested in his services in the second-round, but he was passed on to fill other needs.

Given the fact that over half of the teams in the NFL have access to the same scouting information (there are two services BLESTO and NATIONAL) -- and all the aforementioned, I have no doubts that Quinn was a consensus early third-round choice on a variety of teams' draftboards.

Oh, I forgot to add that via PFW; he was a 3A prospect -- meaning early third round value.

We over reached for him and screwed our options for DT and QB in the third.

Um? No quarterbacks were taken in the third round and Terrance Knighton was the only potential nosetackle prospect taken in the third round, and one of two DT's including Alex Magee. So, I really don't see how we "screwed" our options? Doesn't seem like there was much of a value there at all.

I have strange feeling that if we played it right we would have Quinn, Knighton and McGee in the third.

I'm perfectly happy with the three second rounders we drafted, along with Bruton and the fourth we got from Pittsburgh that got us Olsen. Actually, I'm pretty stoked about our whole draft.

I glad you are, because I am not. I feel that we played it wrong, and I thought Smith would be the steal of the draft.

I thought you wanted us to go heavy on offense. Didn't your mock have us taking RB and a QB in the 1st?

No I didn't want us to go heavy on offense, I based my mocks on what I think the FO will do, based upon statements made by coaches , system we play, and who Dove Valley brings in.

If we took a Qb in the 3rd or higher i would have castrated myself with a spoon.......I made a thread about this at one time too.

I am sooo glad mcd isnt a douche when its comes to drafting, i need my junk, its has many lots of tread left on the tires, and a spoon would have been long and painful.

at first no knowing about him I was not overly pleased with the pick..

But If he turns into another Graham, then perhaps Daniel will take a salary kiss to get his numbers down.. If not we have a replacement for him..

Also he seems to have all the tools we need for TE great blocking guy and able to catch the occasional pass.

Draft Countdown had him in rounds 2 or 3 and said this:
Strengths:
Terrific size and bulk........strong and powerful........outstanding blocker.....is stout at the P.O.T.........gets good push in the run game......able to fit in space........understands leverage, positioning and angles..........adequate hands.......uses frame well as a receiver........REAL tough......a hard worker.

Weaknesses:
Lacks great timed speed........doesnt get much separation.........not a vertical threat who will stretch the field............isnt very elusive....doesnt do much after the catch........is raw as a route runner......extreme lack of production. (in the receiving game)

Projects as prototypical #2 TE and a blocking specialist at the next level but should really excel in that role.

:yawn

I'll wait to pass judgement on "reaching" until I at least see the team play some games. a lot of dram queens on here.
