I think you're right. I just had too many DE. I don't think that ILB spot will be as valuable because I think the SILB is going to end up getting pulled a lot for a DB. However we do need more of a back-up for Davis. Larsen is a good special teamer and a two down thumper that we can have starting in the future.

Torain is overrated. He'll be bagging groceries next fall.

Yeah I'm not sure Torain will be making it.

I think one of the O-line starters will be different by the time the season starts.

Turner seemed to be very high on Torain, I also think he's our best all around back up. Buck and J.J. are more situational/rotational guys, so I think Torain beats out Jordan based on performance and age.

I do however think that you're right about one of our o-line guys being different. Specifically I think Weigman will be out but I'm not ready to make that change yet. I wanted to wait and see how the contract talks go, if they go at all.

The Pats have a history of letting guys walk, and I think Schlueter was brought in just in case Weigman does walk over the contract.

I suppose next on the list would be Hamilton, although I think he gets a lot off leeway for being a G/C. He brings a lot of flexibility so despite everything I think he sticks.

Jarvis Moss... that was a really good draft pick.

I think Lamont Jordan makes the team over Buckhalter.

Buck will get hurt in either training camp or pre-season and Jordan's familiarity with McDaneil's offense will allow him a spot.

I wouldn't doubt that Buck gets hurt too but Hillis does everything that Jordan does only better.

I don't think Wiegmann and Hamilton both make it through camp completely healthy. If they do they should be the starters, but there's something about those two that tells me they're injury prone (Wiegmann due to age; Hamilton because he's Hamilton).

This was my thinking as well. It's nice to pay him, and let him teach the guys during camp, but I don't think he makes it to the final 53. RBs at his age are hitting their decline, and his advantage of knowing the scheme will wear off pretty quick. At least I hope so because otherwise it means the other guys aren't getting it which is a bad sign.

I think in addition to injury there's the question of Weigmann wanting a new contract and how Hamilton fits the new wrinkles that McD is bringing in. I just wasn't sure which one to pull the trigger on.

A couple thoughts:

1. I would think that you would need more than 5 WRs in the new offensive system. For that reason, I'd find it difficult to leave off Chad Jackson.

2. McDaniels has said that 5-6 DL will be active on game day. With Reid at being slated to play DE and OLB, I think you could probably swing Baker onto the PS, with Marcus Thomas playing 3rd string NT.

BroncoTech

I could see then keeping only 2 quarterbacks active leaving Simms as the odd man out. Or maybe stash the rookie QB off on the PS, if possible.

I'm pretty sure during one of the draft day press conferences McDaniels said that Royal will be returning punts and kicks. There were questions being brought up because Antonio Smith can return also, but I'm pretty sure he said that Royal would still be our return guy because he loves what he can do back there.

Kicks - Johnathan Jerone Arrington (if he returns kicks, it legitimizes bringing in 3 FA rb's "and" he is pretty damn good)

Punts- "The" Eddie Royal

I still think they will trade Scheff, no way he fits the offense.

Tom Brady-guy will go to P.S.

Count on a d-line pickup or two on June 1, our d-line is awful.

They can get the Rams linebacker "right now", he is a tackling machine, my guess is he didn't like Spags and Spags didn't like him.....sometimes a new coach will do that to a "player".

I think Davis is more mouth than results, but we'll see. (You heard it here first)

Guys like Larsen you definately want to keep around, playing both positions adds value.

Just my take.

I'd also bet that others will get a chance to beat him out..

IF they are better, he becomes a Backup.. which would be real sweet..

If they beat him out, awesome. That just means they're more dynamic than Eddie which is saying A LOT. If they don't, I'm fine with him returning punts and kicks. He's got a chance at taking one to the house every time he fields one.

Walker and Greisen are no longer eligible for the practice squad.

Lol at Torain making your 53 man roster.......he tore his ACL and that takes 1+ years to really come back from. He's out of football in 2009 IMO.

No love for Chad Jackson? He's got the second most experience in McDaniels system.....

Chad Jackson got cut from New England because he was a bust in their system, so I understand that move. Also, Jabar Gaffney is the most experienced with the McDaniels system. Other than that your post is dead on.

Chad Jackson was not released by New England due to him not picking up the system.

In fact, he was on a great pace until he had a nagging hamstring injury...and then he tore his ACL, so the Patriots released him (that's why I think that's what will happen with Torain)

Who cares who makes the 53? The one thing I see being ignored here is that Weigman has always anchored a very good O-line. Is he too small, too old, too whatever? Pay him a little more and keep him in there, he is the anchor.

After many years of watching Buckhalter, I think the reverse, He makes it and Jordan goes! Buckhalter has been hurt, you are correct but that was as Westbrooks back up. boss bailey is coming off a severe knee injury, he will not be the same in camp, and MCD will most likely give him an injury settlement....just my take.....as for robinson it will be a huge battle between 4 guys braxton kelly/nick greisen/robinson/and mario haggan....haggan is to old and will probally be a june 1st cut, braxton kelly is very good, but isnt quite as good as woodyard, my guess is the ps for him. so for me it comes down to griesen and robinson and i just like what robinson brings.......he will suprise many the same way woodyard and larsen did last year....

You're right about Walker and Greisen, for Walker I didn't realize that PS eligibility only lasted two years, for Greisen I just got confused about his experience. :banghead:

Torain may start on the PUP but I really think they are going to keep him around. Mostly because I remember the love that he got last year from the coaching staff, and we still have Turner and Dennison. Also because so many of the people on this board saying he will be gone have been a wrong a lot this offseason so I'm just playing the odds.

Nope, no love for Chad I think if Josh were counting on his experience in the system then he wouldn't have brought in Gaffney. I do however think that if we don't keep 10 DBs we would probably keep Jackson. However the ten DBs are more for special teams than anything else which is why I see Jackson getting the ax.

I think this article (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8104d93c&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true) raises a point about the guys who are going to make the roster.

Bigger changes are expected to occur among the blockers that teams use.

"It'll be different type guys back there, probably a little bit more athletic," Toub said. "You'd use D-linemen or O-linemen at times, but now you can't use those guys because they've got to be able to block in space. One of those two guys is going to probably be more of an athletic type of guy because he's got to be able to block a man in space -- a linebacker, fullback type of guy."

Consequently, larger and less athletic players who are near the bottom of the depth charts at their respective positions are less likely to be activated on game day (or even make the final roster cut) than they were previously.

Another area heavily impacted by the elimination of the wedge is kickoff coverage, where adjustments also are being made.

"The coverage is going to be different," Toub said. "Before, guys would come down and say, 'OK, there's the wedge, I know where the return is going.' That freed up your mind to play fast on kickoff coverage. Now when you come down, you have a man blocking you. You don't know exactly where that point of attack is. It's kind of like covering a punt where you have a guy that's blocking you down the field on a punt return. The return can actually hit anywhere so it makes coverage a lot tougher. You have to be ready to shed your man and run to the ball."

Such maneuverability will likely be taken into account when special teams coaches choose players for kickoff coverage.
