At No. 188 overall, Denver selected University of Kentucky linebacker Danny Trevathan.

"This kid makes a ton of sense for the Denver Broncos," NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said on the network's draft broadcast.

Trevathan led the Wildcats -- and the entire Southeastern Conference -- in tackles in 2011 with 143, the second straight year he accomplished that feat.

For his career, Trevathan has 374 tackles, six sacks, 32.5 tackles for loss, 11 forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, nine passes defensed and four interceptions.

Danny Trevathan went to the same college as fellow linebacker Wesley Woodyard, but the former Wildcats have more than Kentucky in common.

“It’s been an honor to see him play,” said Trevathan, the Broncos’ sixth-round pick. “I never had a chance to play with him. I think our football characteristics are similar. I strive [to be] like him, he’s a great leader, I can’t wait to play with him this year.”

Both Woodyard and Trevathan could qualify as “tackling machines” at Kentucky — both are in the top 10 in Wildcats history in tackles, and Trevathan is coming off two straight seasons of leading the SEC in tackles.

This kid leads the SEC in tackles two straight years and is available at 188?

I would say that he was missing the "measurables" that are so loved in the drafting process, but what is more easily measured than tackles?

Wow. I didn't know he led the SEC in tackling.

Kinda funny, he was going to be my next pick for Minnesota in the MB mock draft when it died on the vine...

I had the Trevathan pick all queued up. Hopefully, he can contribute.

UDFA Johnson from Kansas lead the Big 12 in tackles as well, and Franlin was All-SEC 2nd team. I think our 3rd day could have been better in finding solid talent than the first 2 were.

This could be the year that all seven selections make the team . . .

I think Walter, NFL, & SI were the only ones giving him any love... everyone else I saw had him as a UDFA...

Lol, I wound up with Menzie when Jhildebrand snagged Green but had Hanna queued up in the 6th when that thing died...
