On Tuesday, the Broncos war room got a surprise visitor — recently retired safety Brian Dawkins.

Dawkins entered the room to thank everyone in it for the opportunity to play in Denver, and there were lots of smiles, hugs, laughs and some heartfelt interaction.

Before he left the room, however, Owner/CEO Pat Bowlen, Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway, Head Coach John Fox, General Manager Brian Xanders and the rest of the war room had a surprise for Dawkins as well.

I thought it was GREAT when Dawk said he told the FO that his door was open to assisting, and the FO said the Broncos' door was open to him.

Class act. Sad to see him go. Im a little surprised Dawkins will be living in Denver after all the years he spent in Philly. The more hes around the team and community, the better. Its pretty cool he'll be in the draft room too. Its little things like this sense Elway took over that gives me the ultimate respect for the organization.

Why does Bowlen look like someone sticking something up his butt in the photo?

In an interview today, he said he'd be helping coach his son's high school team this fall.

FWIW

From article:

Dawkins will return to Philadelphia this week for a formal goodbye to the Eagles. Dawkins said he not yet decided if he will sign a one-day contract to officially end his career with the organization that drafted him.

His future, though, will remain tied to the Broncos. Dawkins and his family plan to make Denver their permanent home. Dawkins said he plans to help coach at the high school level (his son, Brian, is a 15-year-old wide receiver/defensive back at Valor Christian), and will remain available to the Broncos in a mentorship role.

"They know I'm going to be around, and any time they need me for anything, whether it's to help with the guys or whatever, I'm open to be used as they need me," Dawkins said. "My door is open, as they have told me their door is open the other way as well."

I'd love to see Dawk ease into a DB assistant coach role or something along those lines. Dawk is the exact type of mentor I would want ANY young man entering the league to have, especially DBs.

Dawk's pre-game stuff is something every football player should watch before a game.

Would love to see some of his enthusiasm on the side lines. I loved seeing him getting all worked up on the field/sidelines.
