I have the dates for the "Legacy Games" for all of the Original Eight American Football League teams, except the Broncos. (See http://www.remembertheafl.com/CelebrateTheAFL.htm#LegacyGames).

If anyone has information on these games, please contact me at RemembertheAFL@aol.com.

I also have a page for the Broncos, with bios on Denver members of my American Football League Hall of Fame, at http://www.conigliofamily.com/Broncos.htm.

That's awesome.

Our throwbacks color scheme is similar to Wyoming. I'm not sure I really like the home gold uniform, but I could see myself buying a jersey. I like the away unis.

I like these Wyoming Cowboys-like threads, but the dark reddish orange is the best.

Bring back the orange pants as well!

As long as we win we could wear those unis every game for all I care. They aren't that ugly.

Not as long as the BRONCOS are winning!;)

With the anniversary, I would have like to see both games played against an AFL opponents instead of the Giants on Thanksgiving night....maybe like a Oilers or Chiefs that night. But I understand the Giants will get viewers glued to the tv set that night!

One thing I didn't know about the AFL BRONCOS (I read this at BM), is that they drafted Di ck Butkus because he was eligible for the AFL draft and NFL draft that year. The Bears also drafted him as well and he chose the Bears obviously. Anyway, I thought that was interesting to know, the BRONCOS drafted one of the greatest LBs to ever play the game and never played a down for the BRONCOS.

The Broncos' drafted Goose Gonsoulin in 1960. The Forty-Niners also drafted him, because he was eligible for the AFL draft and the NFL draft (so was every other college player) but he chose the Broncos, obviously. I can't believe that the 49ers could have had Gonsoulin, a five-time AFL All-Star, two time All-Pro, second team All-Time AFL, and the all time interception leader for the American Football League. Gee, the 49ers could have had one of the best dbs in Professional Football history, but he never even played for them until he finished his stellar career with the Broncos!

Broncos drafted Merlin Olsen, too.

Thanks for bringing up the background story about Gonsoulin. He gets forgotten about sometimes because the Broncos have a deep tradition of safeties. Gonsoulin has as strong of a case as Billy Thompson, Dennis Smith and Steve Atwater when it comes to the question of \"who is the greatest safety in franchise history\"?

The Denver Broncos will turn back the clock twice during the 2009 season to honor the 50th anniversary of the original American Football League. The Broncos were a charter member of the league when it began play in 1960.

On Tuesday, the NFL announced it will stage 16 games this season to honor the AFL. As part of the announcement, the league said the eight original AFL teams will wear historic uniforms.

For the Broncos, that means they will wear the original 1960 mustard yellow and brown uniforms. The helmets will be brown with jersey numbers on the sides. And of course, the Broncos will wear the infamous vertical striped socks.

Eleven legacy games will be matchups between those original AFL teams: Buffalo, New England, San Diego, Denver, Oakland, Tennessee, Kansas City and the New York Jets. The Chargers actually began life in Los Angeles in 1960, while the Titans were the Houston Oilers and the Chiefs were the Dallas Texans. The Jets were known as the New York Titans back then.

The Broncos will play in legacy games Oct. 11th at home against New England, and then on the road Oct. 19th at San Diego.

The first legacy game is during the preseason, when Buffalo plays Tennessee in the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio on Aug. 8.

On the first Monday night of the regular season, a doubleheader will feature Buffalo at New England, followed by San Diego at Oakland. On Sept. 27, the current Titans are at the former Titans: Tennessee at the Jets. On October 18th, Tennessee is at New England.

San Diego visits Kansas City on Oct. 25 in another legacy game, followed by the Jets at the Raiders.

Buffalo is at Tennessee and Kansas City at Oakland on Nov. 15.

Another legacy game has the Dallas Cowboys, wearing their jerseys from 1960-1962, at Kansas City on Oct. 11. From '60-62, the Texans and Cowboys shared the Cotton Bowl before the Texans moved to Kansas City to become the Chiefs.

On Nov. 1, the Miami Dolphins, who joined the AFL as an expansion team in 1966, visit the Jets. On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, Oakland visits the Cowboys. Three days later, Miami is at Buffalo. On Dec. 8, the final legacy game has New England at Miami.

Game-worn jerseys and signed memorabilia will be auctioned off throughout the season, with money raised going to the NFL Player Care Foundation.

The AFL began in 1960 and lasted through 1969, when a merger with the NFL became official. The two leagues began playing championship games in the 1966 season, although the title game was not called the Super Bowl until the 1969 match between the Jets and Baltimore Colts.
