Wasn't he just throwing with Peyton and Decker last week?

Too bad; looks like this guy's career may be over before it even started.

One hit to his ankle and he could be gone for good.

Broncos tight end Julius Thomas, who saw his rookie season ruined by a severe Week 2 ankle injury last September, had surgery to repair ligaments this past week.

Noted ankle/foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson performed the surgery, according to Julius’ father, Greg, and Thomas will begin his receovery as the Broncos are set to open their offseason program April 16. Thomas will be limited to work with the team’s training and medical staff as the Broncos go through their offseason conditioning and team workouts over the next two months.

It's not so much the severity of the injury as it is that he already needs this kind of surgery. On top of that, the article that started this thread suggests that the Broncos already have a couple of guys to compete for his roster spot. If they can stay healthy, and he can't, then the Broncos may feel a need to go with someone who the can count on to take the field. After all, how many Knowshon “China Doll” Morenos can we afford to have on our roster all at once?

 That's hilarious!

Yup! They'll have to amputate his foot and attach a bionic foot. "We can build him better! We have the technology."

kind of puts a wrench in the works for all the nay sayers who were trying to spin it as Thomas falling out of favor with the coaching staff. Looks like what I've said it was all along. A severe ankle injury. He'll be back.

B-U-S-T...A wasted 4th round pick. The guy cant even play catch with Peyton without destroying ligaments. The dude is NOT a football player

We got 2 players from the 2011 draft and the rest have sucked. Maybe Q Carter will amount to something, but R Moore and Nate Irving have been bombs..

there's no arguing Moore fell off, but Irving was hurt, and history says writing off an entire draft class after a year is asinine.

I also thought that Carter played great as a rookie. Had 2 picks in the playoffs.
Jeez, some folks need to slow down and not write the whole thing off.
And i warned everyone here about the punk-ass, primadonna, my-shit-dont-stink, moore.

Yeah, we are still waiting for Ayers to blossom and show the promise of his pick.

Pretty sure he did blossom last year. He's never going to be a 10 sack guy. He does tremendous work in the run game and had the multi sack game at the end of the year.

My question is why wait until now to have the surgery? Everytime I see players that where injured during the season and now are just recently having a procedure done it makes me scratch my head. I remember the Sidney Rice incident and how he choose to have surgery so close to the season starting and it set him back in his career.

Because the advice from their doctor is "we won't know if you need surgery yet until we can see ______." They don't know, and the player doesn't want to have unnecessary surgery, and the surgeon won't do unnecessary surgery. So the player has to wait, and see, and then make a decision based on the progress (or non-progress) according to the surgeon.

Denver had better hope he hasn't blossomed. Base 4-3 LDE's who can chip in a few sacks a year are a dime-o-dozen, if this is what we can expect from Ayers he "blossomed" as a Sr in college.

Btw, Quinton Carter took horrible angles repeatedly as a rookie. He may tackle better than Moore but a fat, steamy load of good that does if he constantly has to make a u-turn to chase the ball towards the endzone.......

he looked dominant vs Pittsburgh, and let's not forget the ridiculous transition to 3-4 backer after playing tackle and end in college. I was happy with his progress last year.

I think Ayers stepped up this last season and was much better at DE. He is great against the run game IMO.

With Moore, I am hoping that he improves a lot, I hope the benching at end of season woke him up that he needs to work on his shit. Carter got better at end of the season IMO, but he made a lot of rookie mistakes with bad angles. I am hoping with both of them it is a matter of game speed, and getting use to that.

yep. . . i thought carter was a better prospect than moore-- i loved getting Q in the fifth, but almost pitched my TV off the balcony when we burned a pick on rahim. . . SMH

i think carter will be fine. . . he's not the most instinctive player, he's more of a high-reps guy who's going to take a few years to really develop at this level. . . he should fit better at strong safety this year, where he can be in the box more and play to his strengths, while adams plays more of the over-the-top coverage. . .

oh, and clay. . . ayers did start blossoming last year, you just weren't paying attention. . .

:welcome:

the injury's a bummer for thomas, but not especially probloematic for the team with tamme and dreesen in the fold. . . we won't need to rush thomas back, and it's only april anyway. . . as long as he doesn't actually die from it, he should be ready to go sometime in the early part of the season at the latest. . .
