1977 memories: Paul Smith

Smith was one of the monsters on that great d-line that also had Dave Costa and Rich "Tombstone" Jackson, and he lasted through that to be part of the Original Orange Crush defense. I have a book where d-line coach Stan Jones said of him "he doesn't even walk with much cordination, but you almost never see him off his feet during a game". He lost a step when he blew out his Achille's heel, but was still darn good. He WALKED off the field when that happened-he refused to let anyone help him. Sadly, he is no longer with us.
