I don't know if this is thread worthy or not, but it really seems like this guy just does not like players that the Broncos draft. Arguing with Todd McShay about the LT Jason Smith from Baylor he said "You compared Jason Smith to Ryan Clady who wasn't elite last year." He was arguing that the Lions should take Stafford over Smith with the first pick. Was Mel Kiper watching the NFL last year? Clady is already a top 5 OT in the league and he was a rookie last year. He gave up like 1.5 sacks and didn't miss a snap! His run blocking got better as the year went on too. Kiper has always not like Cutler also. (I know he's not a Bronco, but he was and Kiper did not like the guy for some reason). Does he have a beef with the Broncos?

He was talking about WHEN Clady came out. Not right now.

If Clady was an "Elite" prospect comming out, he would have been in the top 5.

Now, as we know, after his rookie year, he is elite.

He had questions comming into the draft last year.

I saw this as well, and this is how I understood it. I think he was just saying that Clady wasn't considered a top 5 prospect last year.

I think more than anything Kiper at that time used the fact that Clady went to Boise State as reason he wasn't an elite tackle. Anyway I'm glad that Kiper and 11 other teams missed the boat on Clady.

Also, I love watching McShay and Kiper argue. You can see McShay starting to get irritated as soon as Mel decides he is going to go on one of his incoherent rants.

I sure am glad we have him now though.

Actually, Clady gave up ½ sack . . . and that was one where he was blocking
in on a DT and the TE missed the DE.

McShay had a pretty decent point about why a team would pick Smith over Stafford with the 1st pick. Problem with Kiper is that though he's usually pretty good at scouting players, he wouldn't make a good GM, as he doesn't take into account real world factors that GMs must factor into their decisions; the implications of the high bust factor with QBs affecting the organization for years to come, building the OL first before getting a rookie QB traumatized ala Carr, how some college players just don't equate well in the pros (he chose Leinart as the best QB of the 2006 draft).

Mike Mayock is obviously much better than both of them.

But at least Kiper pretends to know what he is talking about. With McShay I feel like some college kid is reading a scouting report to me. He backtracks on everything he says when Kiper calls him out.

I watched it last night and Kiper argument didn't make sense. Basically he put more emphasis on where someone was drafted (to be consider elite), versus how that guy actually performed on the NFL field.

That's unusual. Kiper usually puts more emphasis on where he thought they would be drafted that on performance or their actual draft position.

The reason Mayock and other draft analysts are doing that is because they don't Orton or Simms are the answer to Denver's quarterback situation.

Looks like Denver might have the best period Left tackle in the game right now.

Yes, and the Broncos also drafted perhaps the best right guard in the game:

1. Chris Kuper (Broncos) 0 sacks allowed (16 starts)

And they drafted a top ten right tackle:

6. Ryan Harris (Broncos) 2.5 sacks allowed (16 starts)

To cite the O-line in an effort to dress down the Broncos for their drafting indeed takes a moron to do it . . . :coffee:

Denver's o-line was stellar last year! As much as it pains me to say it they did a great job.

The D-line/ front 7 ..... not so good!!!

This year's front 7 is completely different, which begs the question: will it be improved, or just . . . different . . .

I think it depends on if Denver can get a stud Nose tackle. That is going to be the key to the 3-4 D that Denver is trying to switch to this year IMO.

Well, of course, Cutler's elusiveness and quick release helped. But QBs have
needed that with the most legendary lines in history. Bradshaw needed it with
his lines. Elway needed it in 1998. Montana needed it with that human fortress
he played behind.

Thing about it is, if you look at teams with a lot of sacks, you will find in
several cases elusive QBs playing there, too. So it still comes back to the
Broncos' line.

Jason Peters may be the most overrated player in the entire league. I can't believe the Eagles gave up what they did and then signed the guy to a $60mil contract.

Andy Reid calling him the best tackle in football is a joke.

Those numbers are absolutely phenomenal. Those numbers would have been awesome had Cutler only thrown like 450 times, but didn't he chuck up 600+? Just AMAZING.

Orlando Pace at 32yrs old gave up only two.

He'll be protecting Cutlers blind side. so much for the Bears having a shitty "O" line.

Clady is amazing. I'm glad he's a Bronco.
