NFL owners voted Wednesday at the NFL Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, Fla., to change the regular-season overtime rules to match the playoff format and have turnovers automatically reviewed.

Each team will have an opportunity for a possession in overtime unless the team that receives the first kickoff scores a touchdown on its opening drive.

The rule has not come into play since it was instituted in 2010, with only two playoff games going to overtime. One ended on the first play, Tim Tebow's 80-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas for Denver over Pittsburgh. The other saw each team take several possessions before the Giants beat the 49ers in the NFC title game.

Seems reasonable enough to me.

There is another change this year though, an even bigger one: ALL TURNOVERS WILL BE REVIEWED

Two days ago, we looked at the proposed rule changes for this NFL Annual Meeting. I liked almost all of them, but there was one modification that made the most sense: The Buffalo Bills proposed to limit the instant replay process to the replay booth. This would eliminate referees going "under the hood" to view replays. It would all be decided upstairs.

That was the most significant measure to fail on Wednesday.
