ok, so i started making shirts. just a hobby now, want to try and make some money at it though.

i haven't put any serious work into designs yet, just messing around with simple stuff to try and figure out what kind of stuff i can do with my current setup.

first hoodie i made

2nd hoodie, artwork by a friend. (and it has nothing to do with weed... www.homegrowninc.us)

and here's my first logo concept, what you think?

hit me up with shirt ideas, criticisms, advise... whatever.

lol, that might have to be it from now on.

it stands for pond water industries. i did a project for my lifeskills class in high school where i created a business and had to plan everything from the ground up. i designed pond water industries.

i figured i'll stick with it... unless i come up with something better.

Yeah that is pretty good stuff.

Its funny i was just thinking about shirts that i have seen with newer designs on them. I was thinking they dont have enough on the shoulder or side chest part.

Everything is always centerd. But some newer shirts have some thing on the middle/side chest. I like that. And maybe a little on the same shoulder. Not both shoulders, or stripes or anything just a design thats on the side chest and some shoulder....I dont know... Might be something to look into. might look like crap. But its an idea.

Whats the PWI.?

Oh- ok PWI....

Shaw you could always go with this, I know you will appreciate it.

Kid Icarus.

Not sure if you could use it though as nintendo might have copy righted it.

YOu could make your own guy. Icarus. orsomething...and then the big logo on the back

yeah, i will definitely mix it up when i start doing better designs. right now i'm just dicking around, and will hopefully make some money back doing custom shirts for people. my cuz has a clothing company (levi) so i know it's hard to get started selling your own designs, so i'm not in a huge hurry.

i've always been a brand-buyer. never really bought 'fashion' shirts, so i'll have to work on that.

Good stuff. If you want to get your feet wet and make some money, check this place out: http://www.splitreason.com/customerdesigns.php

They deal with mostly games and movie related stuff, but you could take their design and make a shirt or jacket/hat for them and they pay $250 if they take it.

Heres a hat I made for them: http://www.splitreason.com/product/596

Not a lot of money, but looks good on a resume and a good way to say you are a "professional" designer.

Yes. Its hard to come up with 'geeky' stuff, but you can see some pretty neat hoodies done with their logo.

made this... don't think i could ever sell it because parody is such a grey area, but i made one for me anyway.

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j73/shawshank24/AdolfClean.jpg

don't have a pic of the shirt, but here's the lame 10-minute image i used to make a shirt as an 'art project' for my race class and gender class. it's cheesy but i guarantee i got an a on that project. teach said she's never got a shirt before. i put the symbol on the back and 'race class gender' around the base of the shirt on the sides and front.

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j73/shawshank24/FinalProduct.jpg

they are simple, but that's exactly what they wanted.

i ordered a vinyl cutter, so i'll be playing around with that in the next couple weeks.

Good deal. If you have any questions or whatever about trying to do certain things, don't hesitate to hit me up. Some cuts can get pretty tricky. Just sayin.

it's a cheap cutter.. USCutter Laserpoint. only problem i've had so far seems like a software thing. I try to contour cut, but after mapping my registration, i click 'cut' and nothing happens. Not sure what's up with that.

shank
06-22-2009, 07:48 PM
nevermind i figured it out. you have to have a cut mask when doing contour, even if your graphic is vector.

Cool, i was workin my fingers off trying to find a USCutter screen to see how it's set up. I've only used Flexi when it comes to software.

thanks shake.

i like screen printing, but didn't have the room or the means to deal with the mess involved. i figured plastisol transfers are a good option for anything beyond my limitations...

It's getting better. You seem to be getting the design to product stuff down.

With the skills you're gaining, you could maybe make stuff happen. In my humble, and probably wrong, opinion, you need design help.

I'm not seeing any discernable "attitude" or "message" coming through.

If I were you I'd take Dream's avatars and captions for the last, oh, six months, and see what I could do.

If you could portray a common theme in your designs with that, you know you would be on your way!

Seriously, keep it up, good job.

I want to see an "Iowa Killed Buddy Holley" shirt. I have a friend that I used to work with that did his own silk screening that made a bunch of these at one point, and I could never get one out of him.

I like the designs by the way but they seem to be a little unoriginal. Accept for the last one. Keep it up.

i appreciate the input fellas, but at this point i'm not trying to start product lines here or anything (i guess it could seem like i am since i made a logo, but that too was just thrown together), i'm just kinda dickin' around... only way i'm looking to make any money from this for now is just making custom stuff. everything is still new to me, so i'm still just seeing what kinds of things i can do with my setup. i'll definitely keep input like this in mind if i start trying to make and sell my own designs though :salute:
