That's ugly.

But, we should probably win three before the meat of the schedule kicks in.

Man, that's a brutal middle of the schedule. I'm glad we start out with a fairly easy schedule. It should give our new look team a chance to gain some confidence and get rolling early one. If we start any worse than 2-1 I think it will be a good indication that we are in for a long season.

Good explanation here:

Eighth opener against the Bengals.

Patriots will be a loss - 3-2
Sparklers will be a loss - 3-3

Watch football first? I haven't missed a Broncos game in 14 years. I'm only 22 years old. I think I watch football quite a bit. I forgot the Collinsworth did Football Night in America. My mistake. He rarely does NBC games. He did 1 last year because Madden didn't want to make the cross-country trip from Fla-Cali near the end of last season.

If you don't think we'll win 5 games, that's fine. Realistically it looks 8-8 to me. Maybe. It's a damn tough schedule. But losing 10 out of 11 is a little steep don't you think? I never questioned your fan hood. I know you're a big Broncos fan. Nowhere in my post did I say that you were any less of a fan than me.

I'm a nerd and I think I'm a big shot because I started a thread? Are you looking at the words you're typing? I could care less who started the thread. I happened to see it so I posted it. I'm not being cocky, and I do have a right to defend myself if people are name calling for no reason. Nowhere in ANY of my posts on this thread did I do any name calling. I do think losing 10-11 is a little ridiculous of a prediction, but hey you can think whatever you want. I was just pointing out that it's a little ridiculous IMO.

Both of you need to calm down a bit. I didn't mean any put down towards any of you. I was a little too quick to jump the gun with my posts towards you two though. My apologies to both of you.

Anywhere from 5-11 to 8-8.

The team will surprise us though in that we'll win some of the expected losses and blow at least on the Faid.

On the other hand, who knows, maybe McD's teams will have a different psychological makeup than Shanny's who often seemed to not show up for games they were "supposed to win".

I am one of the few people optimistic about 2009.

I'm optimistic too. The schedule is tough, but every other team in our division has basically the same thing to go through. We haven't even had the draft yet. We're going to be better than some people think, IMO. We'll find out though. There's too many things that can go on between now and September, and even through the NFL season to decide right now if Denver is going to be good or bad. I'll put my faith in the coaching staff until they prove to me that I should believe otherwise. Should be a fun draft and an interesting season. I can't wait!

Don't know if anyone posted it but that was Overtime that he quoted...thinks Denver will beat the Chiefs both times this year.It could happen but I don't see it esp after last season when Denver came to KC and that was the first of KC's only 2 wins...

God...I hope we don't suck like that this season.I looked over KC's schedule. We open the season against the Ravens in Baltimore. Our first 3 out of 4 games are against teams that were in the playoffs last season.

6-10 at worst? I'm betting we can do worse than 6-10.

Besides... why would I be optimistic about this season? If there was a year to take off the optimism and accept realism, this would be the 'rebuilding' year to do it.

This is the year to aim low as to not be disappointed.

This is sure one surprise season coming up. We really don't know what to expect from our team, with all the shake-ups.

If anyone told you before the start of last season that Denver would be primarily a pass first team, that our OL would be one of the best in the league, that we'd be able to score 30+ points on the Chargers and actually win, and that our defense would get even worse than it was with Bates, would you believe him? Gotta remember what it was like in 2007. :D

Everything's up in the air now. I'm expecting our offense to take a few steps backward in the passing game, but hopefully a few steps forward in the running game, and I'm also thinking our defense has to get better with Nolan around. But McDaniels could surprise us and have the offense clicking really early.

I'm also expecting some of the strong teams last season to be much weaker this season, and vice versa, because that always happens. Right now, 9 of our 16 matchups are against playoff teams last season. Hopefully, they all have an off year. :D

The bad news, Al seems to have learned his lesson from last season and is seemingly allowing Cable to coach; I don't think he's gone against anything Cable's wanted to do, probably to make Kiffin look bad. Their FO has also been pretty quiet, which for them is a good thing. No more $50M Walker contracts, and just extending the league's best corner.

Pioli is an upgrade to Carl, while Haley seems like an upgrade over Herm. Their new DC, Pendergast, has produced some defenses good at takeaways ... http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/03/13/kansas_city_chiefs_name_clancy_pendergast_defensiv e_coordinator/

Merriman will be playing again, so he immediately makes SD's defense much better. Also, since they don't have much needs, they're less likely to strike out in the draft. They can probably go for a really solid RB to take LT's place, or an ILB. They'll get even stronger after the draft.

I'm not too concerned about our other opponents; our conference rivals will be facing pretty much the same opponents too. With that in mind, I'm thinking we might be able to stay ahead of the Chiefs, since they're changing their offense and defense too (but they have more defensive talent); the Chargers will take the division; the Raiders might overtake us this season, as continually picking in the top 10 has filled their team with talent, and the only thing they really need is for Al to butt out. :D

Chargers > Raiders > Broncos >= Chiefs

Denver goes 8-8 and the drama begins, kyle goes 1-7 in games where are defense gives up 21 points or more. gets faulted for season mediocrity by coach depsite playing well, ends up being refered to as "the player". Contract not extended becomes a FA, Bowlen announces his faith in MCD, fan base is split. MCd reviews tape, finds out our defense is the root of all evil

MCD suprises during the FA period and drops our ancient secondary for some youthful talent and drafts a top Qb plus more great defensive talent, the follwing off-season brings no controversey, dumervil, masrhall, Kuper are all extended.

We enter a very bright 2011 season. Our draft picks from last year and this year explode on defense, our offense is finally jiving completely, MCD's new Qb is killing it, Fan base becomes enamored with MCD, and we find ourselves in the AFC title game once again.

Mark it down folks 2011 is the year, but many of you will have to deal with a mediocre season next year:cool:

Based on anguished warnings of the coming apocalypse, you might have expected this year's Broncos schedule to look something like Napoleon's invasion of Russia in 1812.

In fact, it's not that bad. Napoleon didn't get to start with the Bengals.

Week 1 at Cincinnati: The Bengals should have Carson Palmer back, but they're still the Bengals. Chad Ocho Cinco gets excessive celebration penalties after all three of his catches and Kyle Orton earns his first win as a Bronco, 33-27. (1-0)

Week 2 vs. Cleveland: Despite several hundred teenage girls demanding Josh McDaniels acquire Brady Quinn, the Broncos' veteran secondary picks off the hapless matinee idol three times and Orton gets his second win, 31-20. Broncomania is back. (2-0)

Week 3 at Oakland: At the last minute, Al Davis writes several fly patterns for Cliff Branch into the game plan. The Broncos escape the Black Hole with a 27-24 victory, but McDaniels' hoodie is stained by a substance he cannot identify. Mayor Hickenlooper holds a parade. (3-0)

Week 4 vs. Dallas: Having watched his team fall to 1-2, Jerry Jones announces he will fire Wade Phillips and hire Mike Shanahan if the Cowboys lose to the surprising Broncos. Felix Jones and Marion Barber combine for 220 yards rushing and Phillips' job is saved, 38-20. Shanahan continues to supervise construction of Shanahangri-La in Cherry Hills Village. (3-1)

Week 5 vs. New England: Bill Belichick is 6-2 against former assistants Eric Mangini and Romeo Crennel. A healthy Tom Brady initiates McDaniels into this club, retiring after three quarters with a 42-10 lead. Defensive end Richard Seymour says Orton is no Matt Cassel. (3-2)

Week 6 at San Diego: Philip Rivers admits he misses his snit fits with Jay Cutler, but playing only three quarters in a 35-13 win makes up for it. McDaniels says the bye week is coming at an excellent time. (3-3)

Week 7 Bye: The Broncos' defense gives up only 10 points.

Week 8 at Baltimore: Orton earns his Chicago nickname — Captain Checkdown — by throwing every pass to Correll Buckhalter or J.J. Arrington. Both hobble off after hits by Ray Lewis. Ravens roll, 24-0. McDaniels says the defense is improving. (3-4)

Week 9 vs. Pittsburgh: Willie Parker breaks Corey Dillon's rushing record against the Broncos by a single yard. Ben Roethlisberger throws 12 passes. The Steelers win 31-10. Afterward, McDaniels refers to Orton as "the player." (3-5)

Week 10 at Washington: Clinton Portis rushes for 140 yards in a blue granny wig. Champ Bailey says he kinda misses the Redskins. Chris Simms replaces Orton at halftime. Redskins roll, 28-10. (3-6)

Week 11 vs. San Diego: Darren Sproles rushes for 200 yards, but the Broncos keep it close, losing 23-17. McDaniels says the offense is improving. (3-7)

Week 12 vs. New York Giants: Before the game, McDaniels asks Brandon Jacobs if he has ever considered playing nose tackle. Jacobs rushes for 180 yards and the Giants win 35-16. Pat Bowlen says McDaniels is doing "a heckuva job under the circumstances." (3-8)

Week 13 at Kansas City: McDaniels reminisces with Cassel and Scott Pioli before the game. The temperature is 5 below. Chiefs win, 13-3. (3-9)

Week 14 at Indianapolis: With all of his running backs injured, McDaniels offers to sign Tatum Bell, who is again selling mobile phones. Bell's only condition is that McDaniels put him in his fave five. Colts win, 31-17. (3-10)

Week 15 vs. Oakland: Despite the 10-game losing streak, McDaniels says the season is a success if the Broncos sweep the hated Raiders. Davis inserts several late plays for Mark van Eeghen, and Orton, subbing for the injured Simms, beats the Raiders again, 20-12. (4-10)

Week 16 at Philadelphia: Brian Dawkins is greeted as a returning hero and says he never really wanted to leave Philly. On their annual late playoff push, the Eagles win, 24-9. (4-11)

Week 17 vs. Kansas City: The Broncos' season comes down to the big rematch against Cassel for last place. In the snow, the Broncos prevail, 6-2. Elvis Dumervil says Cassel is no Kyle Orton. (5-11)

Afterward, McDaniels mentions that Rome wasn't built in a day. "We started fast and we finished strong," he says, "so we met two of our preseason goals."

Mark it down folks 2011 is the year, but many of you will have to deal with a mediocre season next year:cool:

changed my mind....we might draft mark sanchez= Championship:cool:

god help us:rolleyes:

hell ya!!! i was at the last one in 2006!! game was good but had a bad outcome, which led to another bad outcome a few weeks ago.

Except for that Chris Collinsworth does NFLN not NBC. So we will have to listen to him and Bob Papa on Thanksgiving. Madden and Michaels do the Sunday Night Games. I wish we had a couple Sunday nighters. They're always fun.

ahem.....you were saying???

John Madden retired from calling professional football on Wednesday, leaving a craft that he revolutionized for 30 years with a coach's eye, a collection of comic book sound effects and a refined taste for Thanksgiving turducken.

He will be replaced on NBC's Sunday night games by Cris Collinsworthless, who has been the network's lead analyst on the "Football Night in America" pregame program.(THAT'S NOT SAYING A WHOLE LOT, CONSIDERING WHO THE REST OF THE GUYS WITH HIM ON THE SHOW ARE.....:lol::lol::lol:)

Madden became a near immediate hit as a broadcaster and commercial pitchman after retiring as a Super Bowl-winning coach of the Oakland Raiders in 1979. His second career began at CBS, moved to Fox and ABC, and ended at NBC.

A younger generation discovered Madden as the name and inspiration for EA Sports's "Madden NFL Football," the best-selling sports video game ever.

"There's nothing wrong with me," Madden, 73, said on his regular appearance on KCBS Radio in San Francisco. He had three years left on a six-year contract with NBC that paid him $5 million a year. He isn't tired of traveling the country in a plush bus but missed his wife, Virginia, of nearly 50 years, his two sons and his five grandchildren.

"I missed a lot of my sons' growing up," he said. Now, with the grandchildren between the ages of 4 and 8, he said, "They know when I'm here, and they know when I'm gone." Part of his desire to curtail his bus rambling emanates from his inability to call any local games from the Bay Area; the continuing struggles of the Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers have precluded them from playing at home on NBC's Sunday schedule.

"So you go away in August and you come back in January," he said. "I just got to the point where it's not the deal anymore. It was great. It was a great ride."
He emphasized that his decision was not made upon the release this week of the 2009 schedule, which told him the closest game to his home in Pleasanton, Calif., would have been the Colts-Cardinals matchup on Sept. 27 in Glendale, Ariz.

Sandy Montag, his agent, said Madden had ruminated during and after the season about retiring, and told Dick Ebersol, the chairman of NBC Universal Sports, on Tuesday.
Ebersol said that in about 20 conversations with Madden after NBC carried the Super Bowl in February, he had no inkling that Madden was considering retirement, not even when they discussed the games NBC wanted on its 2009 schedule.

Ebersol spent most of Wednesday in Pleasanton with Madden but was unable to persuade him to stay at NBC with a schedule of September and November games, with Collinsworth calling the others. "We talked about that for about an hour and a half," Ebersol said in a conference call. "He was talking but doing a lot of thinking. But he said, 'It's time.'//"
One of Madden's sons, Joe, joined the meeting, and Ebersol quoted him as saying, "We can't believe Dad is doing this."

Madden said that he did not want to announce that the 2009 Super Bowl would be his final game or make a possibly rash decision to retire immediately afterward.

"I'm a grinder, and you grind and go through it and when it's over you think about it, you don't rush into any decision," he told KCBS, and added: "At the end of a season, you're tired, and it drains you, and a lot of people think of quitting and retiring, and then they start feeling better and go back. So I had to guard against that."

Al Michaels, his booth mate at ABC for four seasons at "Monday Night Football," and at NBC the last three, said in an interview: "I thought maybe a year ago he would step away after the Super Bowl. Then we had a great year and so much fun coming out of that game, and you think it's fuel for the future. In that regard, I'm surprised."
Madden's influence on sportscasting has been enormous.
He parsed X's and O's in a clear but hyperkinetic fashion not seen before, and turned the Telestrator into a screen tool to suit the antic personality seen on the sideline as the Raiders' coach and as the arm-flailing spokesman for Lite Beer from Miller.

He turned his production crews into classrooms for game film preparation.

He was humorous and given to tangents that Michaels and Pat Summerall, his CBS and Fox partner, encouraged because they knew he would return to the game.
Networks tried to nurture baby Maddens, the best being Matt Millen, who worked behind Madden on the CBS and Fox depth charts. Others were pale imitations
"He spoiled you," Michaels said. "I never had to wonder if John was informed or prepared. John can run with you on anything and engage you on any subject." He added: "We had seven wonderful years. My only regret is we didn't have 27."

Michaels called two games last season with Collinsworth, one in Tampa that Madden chose not to drive to and the Pro Bowl.
Madden will continue to travel on his bus, although it will get less mileage, and still represent Tinactin, Outback Steakhouse, Verizon and Ace Hardware. He has real estate holdings, vineyards and almond orchards. But in July, when his biorhythms tell him he should be on a practice field, he will not have a professional reason to be there. "It'll be the first year I haven't had a football season," he said, "since high school."
