Memory Question

With my tax refund I'm purchasing a new pc.
First one in 10 years! Windows 98 anyone?
I was wondering which would get better performance.
On a Dual Core processor is it preferrable to have two 1 GB slots of ram or a single 2 GB slot?
I'm leaning towards a single 2 GB since I could upgrade to 4 GB for less in the future.

But if you're going to be running Vista with a dual core processor, I'd advise you to go with at least 3 GB memory if possible.

Obviously, the one you can upgrade is the better choice. And you probably will want to upgrade with some of the video/graphics stuff going around now.

Thanks. I was just wondering because I thought each core was better off utilizing a slot each.
I can't remember why.
I'll probably be running XP for now.
