DENVER — “We are delighted to announce that the 2009 Colorado Sports Hall of Fame banquet is a sellout,” said CSHOF Chairman Bruce Dodge on Monday. “This caps off a tremendous amount of work in preparation for the event, and the public support which we receive from around the state is truly gratifying, especially in our current economic enviroment.”

The 45th annual sports banquet, which is the longest running yearly dinner and awards banquet in Colorado history, will be held once again at the Denver Marriott City Center Hotel.

The final tally of tickets sold is at the 800 mark. Dodge added, “We have always had great support, and the revenue from this sellout allows us to continue making significant contributions to our charitable programs within our state.”

Tuesday, April 14, has been set as the date for the banquet, which will begin with a reception at 5:15 p.m. and features dinner and the awards program from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Also included again this year is the very popular silent auction of classic sports memorabilia, featuring exclusive collectibles from Denver area teams and personalities, and of a national scope as well. This year’s silent auction will be the largest in banquet history and one of the largest ever done at a Colorado event.

This year’s inductees are hockey great Ralph Backstrom, retired high school coach “Lo” Hunter, retired CSU Football coach Sonny Lubick, Colorado Rockies owner Jerry McMorris, CSU great and Tuskeegee airman Lt. Col. John Mosley and Denver Broncos All-Pro Rod Smith.

This year’s star studded Emcee and Presenters are Vic Lombardi, Rick Reilly, Woody Paige, Shannon Sharpe, Terry Frei, Marcia Neville, Irv Brown, Susie Wargin, Norm Jones, Tanya Haave, Larry Zimmer, and Jake Schroeder singing our national anthem.

Each inductee has a tremendous resume of accomplishments beyond that stated above. More biographical information on all inductees is available on the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Web site.

“We could not do this without the great support of our sponsors,” Dodge added. Sponsors of the banquet are MillerCoors Brewing Company, The Denver Post, King Soopers/City Market, Gatorade, MVParents.com, AT&T Mobility, Wells Fargo, and the Denver Marriott City Center.

I may be wrong but didn't he have trouble at the begining of his career off the field?

Yep he had a few domestic violence problems too. He had to take anger management classes.

Really? So why are we so quick to jump on our young players' cases, when they still have time to mature?

It probably has a lot to do with the greater media coverage today, that magnifies situations even more.

How sad.....this crap ass news with Cutler and McD has completely overshadowed Rod.
