For vacation. Nothing too dark, nothing too heavy, nothing too pop-like or overly-gangsta rap. Rock music, preferably modern, maybe indie.

Ideas?

Where are you vacationing at. That always determines the kind of music, and is it a romantic vaca, or party, or relax or all of the above?

Last.fm (http://www.last.fm/)

It's pretty good. Just your basic stuff. Decent selection. I've been able to hear some stuff there i could'nt find anywhere else.

If you haven't played around with Pandora, and you have the time, give it a shot. You enter a band you like and it'll create a station for you that plays music similar to your selection. It's a good way to find music that fits your taste or your mood.

Some good rock:

The Bravery
Muse
Silversun Pickups
Dandy Warhols

I don't know, my choice in music may suck...:D

(new Oasis album Dig out your soul is really good too, but not everyone likes them! :))

Magnificent Seven

Good stuff. Can't go wrong with Hives and the Strokes. Jet would be a good one, too.

I like it. Very Dropkick Murphys/Flogging Molly-esque.

Good stuff. Can't go wrong with Hives and the Strokes. Jet would be a good one, too.

Jet's probably my favorite band of all time. Got plenty of that, but you've got the genre right on.

Stone Roses
Charlatans (UK)
Inspiral Carpets
Shed 7
Bluetones
James
Electronic
Seahorses
Ian Brown
Pulp
Doves
Space
Editors
Kasabian

Not what I'm looking for, but all of those bands are solid for general listening.

Thanks everybody.

The Arcade Fire is the only band that comes to mind when I browse my collection for indie rock.

I like their live youtube vids better than a lot of their recorded versions.

Just go get some 90's music.

And then The Hives, White Stripes, Beck, The Cure, Minus the Bear, Modest Mouse, Magic Numbers, Death Cab for Cutie.

Nice shaw...I dont like the hives....But Goldfinger, LTJ, little flogging molly all great stuff.

Especially the first two i listed. Some of my Favs.

Lol- Like 8 years back i went to the Goldfinger concert at the gothic, and they had some dude eat a twinky out of the drummers ass....It was gross but awesome at the same time.

Thought you would appreciate that.

psycho77- i am not sure what indie is (guess i am out of the times) but imo you can never go wrong with OFFSPRING...

Still though you got to tell me what you are doing or going on your vacation. Then i can give you a recomendation- if you want my opinion that is---lol--im sure there are many who do not for one reason or another.

After my trip to Denver last fall, I've decided some of the best driving music ever is Funker Vogt. German industrial, so not the genre you're looking for, but it's a great pick me up when the hours on the road get long, has a great driving beat.

Mostly chilling, escaping, not doing anything of great benefit to myself or my future, you know. Classic vacation.

Right now I like aberdien's plan of 90's music.

Like... Third Eye Blind - "Semi-Charmed Life"

Very chill.

Lemme see what I can drum up.

More rock-rock:
Land of Sunshine by Faith No More (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoZi7X1v2wc&feature=channel_page)

Ordinary rock:
Elbow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r3Bs_KkP94)

More Elbow. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL4mywCOJXA)

I bought this album and I have to say that it's probably the best album I've bought since Tool's Lateralus.

Poets of the Fall. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRVrQsdWDds&feature=channel_page)

Most of their stuff is too Nickleback-ish for my tastes, but they have some very good songs in each of their albums.

Chill-Rock(?):
Grizzly Bear (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5UHZZx9xw8&feature=channel_page)

Elvis Costello by any chance? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD_wmYI32sM&feature=channel_page)

Mogwai. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXcl1gNodtU&feature=channel_page)

Random song about beer. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzYof5GjhQ8&feature=channel_page) ;)

Song in Arabic. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUbzX3izyw4&feature=channel_page) Understand very little of it, but it's a ballin' song lol

I'd definitely check Elbow out, IMO.

Fastball- they had some good 90's - the way, she is high above me.

Hoobastank- crawling in the dark, remember me

Bargain Music--Ulitmate chill music- they are hard to find though...Some of thier best songs are- Black eye, percaltor, forest for the trees,,others songs are what would you do

They are one of the most underrated bands IMO, super chill, but funny at the same time.

Sister hazel- all for you- great song too from the 90's

Maybe a little hootie and the blowfish

VH1's 100 greatest songs of the 90's list is pretty good. Skim through that, work the youtube and you'll recognize most of them i'd bet.

You should check out this band called the Henry Clay People (www.myspace.com/thehenryclaypeople) They're this local band from Los Angeles. They have this indie/alternative sound mixed with some rock and roll. They're really great and just a fun band (especially live).

90s music is always a good way to go. One band that is really under-appreciated now is Collective Soul. I would check out their self-titled album and the 'Seven Year Itch' compilation and make some combo album of the two.
