I will likely have to go auto-pick regardless of the day/time. It's the one downside for me when it comes to fantasy baseball. I usually end up with a crappy team because of it, but I still think I can beat you guys.

I went to set up the league and I'm not sure once I fully create it, it will let me change the draft time, so I want to have a decent time for everyone set up.

I'd prefer week night or weekend, during the week March 12 through March 19.

I have 3 stat suggestions which I can live without, but wouldn't mind being added. Fielding % (or just straight up Errors) mainly because it rewards good defensive play, and can hurt a team that has all sluggers that can't field worth a shit. Walks because it rewards batters for having good plate discipline. And L's on the pitching column because it's really easy just to pick up/drop different pitchers throughout the week in order to rack up more K's and W's, so L's helps to keep that in check. Also, can we put a limit on transactions? Maybe say like 70 or something?

While you can rack up K's and wins streaming kills your ERA/WHIP.

Don't like the idea of a transaction limit, minimum innings pitched is better. Forces you to have starters and plus the good ones will be on rosters so streaming wins is really hard.

Having a transaction limit is the single dumbest and most pointless rule in fantasy sports.

I also like the idea of minimum innings pitched to keep people from sandbagging their pitching stats.

From what I gather, no matter when we did an ESPN draft at least half the league would be MIA. Takes away a lot from a league.

I've done it with fantasy football at BroncosOutsiders.

It works pretty well. We set up a time limit, and if the person who's up doesn't draft, we autopick based on the best available player using whichever player ranking list we agree on.

I don't see how we gain anything by holding it in here vs. a regular draft on ESPN. All it does is significantly slow down the process.

Because not everyone can make it to a live draft, I think that is the point.

We gain getting more people the ability to participate, and everyone gets a bit more time to make a decision than the 90 seconds you get on a live draft on ESPN. Honestly, I think it will make all the teams more competitive.

So as a compromise, I’ll let everybody take turns drafting a player for me each round. If this means that I have a bunch of players that get assigned to Triple A on opening day, fine, I’ll just build my team through free agency. This appears to be the only way we can get this blasted draft over with before the start of the season.

The way we're setting this up is, if you're not here, essentially the auto pick that you would have received during the ESPN draft is what you'll receive in this draft. There's actually an added benefit here, though, as I see it, because you'll have humans doing the autopicking, so you won't get some injured player or someone who retired after the draft pool database was built.

My issue is simply not having internet at home right now. ESPN has a lite draft app that worked Saturday on my iPad, so Yahoo may work too.

Also, I just executed a trade for like the first time in 8 years of fantasy sports. I can never seem to pull trades off in fantasy baseball or football because everyone always wants to get the best of it.

I traded SS JJ Hardy from Baltimore in exchange for SS Dee Gordon from LA. I already have Jose Bautista, Jay Bruce and a couple other guys who hit for power - so I was willing to trade some power for speed. JJ Hardy is currently ranked slightly higher than Gordon, and projected to finish slightly better, but I have zero stolen base guys on my team - so I figured the speed was more valuable than the power I'm giving up.

Any thoughts?

Yep - he has Michael Morse on the DL and is sort of panicking about his power. My team is really only missing a speed/stolen bases dude at the moment, so in theory it should work out for both of us. I just hope Gordon can raise his average a bit.

I haven't paid much attention to Gordon yet. What's his OBP? Does he have good enough plate discipline where even if his average is .260 or .270, he's still a threat for SBs and Rs?

He only has a .263 OBP this season, and is hitting below the Mendoza line... But he has the most steals and most steal attempts since September 1st last year - and he was closer to .300 and .325 last year, so I think he will only improve as the year goes on. And Mattingly seems committed to him, so they'll give him a lot of slack to work through any slumps.
