M.I.A. - Kala
But I could easily make a case for The Beatles' Revolver, Weezer's self-titled, Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, and Radiohead's In Rainbows.

"Larks Tongues in Aspic" by King Crimson, c. 1973. In this album Prog Rock hits its apex - it is simply perfect. After 1973 Prog got self indulgent and overwrought, but here is everything it could be at its best. Put on headphones, turn out the lights, pour a good beer and kick back. Its the one album makes me wish I hadn't quit with them left handed cigareetes all those years ago :D

Not sure my favorite EVER, but some that never leave my playlist are:
Siamese Dream/Mellon Collie - Smashing Pumpkins

Those 3 albums I can listen to back and front. Everything else is just variations of that type of rock.

Does "Album" mean vinyl? Do CDs count?
To be a great album, in my mind, it has to have good-to-great songs throughout, not just a few solid cuts but something you enjoy listening to repeatedly from beginning to end. Among my candidates:
"Salute" - Gordon Lightfoot
"Strong Persuader" - Robert Cray Band
"Too Low For Zero" - Elton John
"Rubber Soul" - The Beatles
As for "greatest hits" and CD compilations, my top one is "A Decade Of Steely Dan".

I know I haven't sold anyone on Jazz yet but my favorite album is Miles Davis Kind of Blue. It was rated the twelfth best album of all time according to Rolling Stones top 500 albums of all time.
http://dj-funktual.hubpages.com/hub/Rolling-Stones-The-500-Greatest-Albums-of-All-Time
John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley made up part of Miles' group This group was labeled the first great quintet.
Also from Miles Davis in the top 500 was Miles Davis Bitches Brew, the album that really started Fusion Jazz and Miles Davis Sketches of Spain an Jazz collaboration based off of Spanish classical music.
I play them often.

OK Computer is brilliant, but The Bends isn't really a great album. It's good, and alot of the songs on it are great, but it's too 90s Brit pop and not Radiohead enough. OK Computer is a great balance between old Radiohead and new Radiohead.
I didn't like King of Limbs at all really when it first came out. So I put it away for a few months and picked it up again in December and it clicked. For some reason I think it's meant to be listened to in the winter time. Definitely a grower. But I think it's one of their best. I need to listen to OK Computer again to see if I like KOL better than it. For fun, i'm going to rank my favorite RH albums:
In Rainbows
Amnesiac
OK Computer
King of Limbs
Hail to the Thief
Kid A
The Bends
Rollercoaster - Randy Rogers Band

Agreed. I still can't believe I get to see Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails at Red Rocks in just a few months. I make it a point to see my favorites every chance I get, but especially at THAT venue. Plus you never know when they will "retire" again!
Coming of age in the grunge scene was weird for me. I could never really get into Nirvana outside of Nevermind, and the only Pearl Jam album I liked besides Ten was Vitalogy of all things. I was more into the Industrial or Heavier stuff like NIN and Soundgarden or what the what I consider Prog-Rock of the Smashing Pumpkins. Then when the London scene blew up with Oasis, Blur, Suede, etc. I started digging up old stuff at record stores like The Stone Roses.
Alas I am officially at that age where hardly any new music makes me care. I like things like Arcade Fire but I do miss rummaging through record stores for b-sides of my favorite bands. Pandora is a godsend for finding newer music for me that I can tolerate though. It does a pretty good job of finding similar songs in the genres I like.

I know, i first saw them in Glasgow on the Be Here Now Tour (an album which i actually really liked), seen them loads since then - they really were the soundtrack of my teenage years which means i probably rate them as better than they actually were simply because they so significant to my social life at the time.
Fingers crossed they do a reunion tour - it is actually my aim to go to Coachella - so if they could play that, i could kill several birds with one stone

Yeah, Be Here Now gets a lot of crap for being an overproduced, drug-fueled album but that is precisely the reason I like it as well. I was able to see Oasis three times in the states, the best being a show at Red Rocks when Jet opened for them. We were about 30 rows up from the stage and surrounded by people from the UK and other parts of Europe which made it really unique and fun. Parts of that show were on their Lord Don't Slow Me Down DVD that came out a few years back:

I was able to see Oasis three times in the states, the best being a show at Red Rocks when Jet opened for them. We were about 30 rows up from the stage and surrounded by people from the UK and other parts of Europe which made it really unique and fun. Parts of that show were on their Lord Don't Slow Me Down DVD that came out a few years back:

I think i saw about 3 shows at Red Rocks when i was still in Colorado. Saw Stryper, Loudness, and TNT in 87', Great White, Tesla, and Kix in 88', and the Clash of the Titans tour (Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, and Alice n Chains) in 90'. Such a great venue to see bands.
I caught the Cult and Metallica there (And Justice for All tour) Definitely my favorite venue.
