Is it time to sign a DE yet? Igor Olshansky would be a great pick up. He is the definition of beast. The man has been training since the sixth grade..lol. He is a LOS player and is only 26.

Marques Douglas-DL-Ravens Mar. 5 - 7:39 pm et

The Jets are believed to be free agent DL Marques Douglas' strongest suitor.
The Broncos and 49ers have also been linked to the versatile backup, but he's said to be a "personal favorite" of Jets coach Rex Ryan

This isn't good. I know we will take a DE sometime in the draft but we need depth

All of the "DT" we have picked up will play DE in a 3-4.

Plus, Crowder, Peterson and Powell are 3-4 DEs.

I would assume Fields would play Nose over a 3-4 end.

He's scared he'll catch the beetus if he shares a sleeping bag with Jay.

Marcus Thomas as well, I would presume. I don't think he is big enough to play NT...unless McDaniels told him to eat a short stack, 5 eggs, and 10 pieces of bacon 3 times a day as his offseason workout.

I heard Daryl Gardner holds conditioning programs every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday at IHOP for all our DLINEMEN.

If Olshansky was a good choice for this team, he would have visited Dove Valley by now is my guess. Don't forget that his old D-line coach is here, so we have all of the info on him that we need.

He also may not have wanted to play in Denver.

I agree all except for Fields, He'll play DT IMO.

I think this guy will play DE for sure:

Darrell Reid, DT: Comes from the one-gap scheme of the Colts and is best suited to be on the move. Plays a little bigger than his size, however, he’s not a zero technique nose and will need to be on the move.

I actually don't think we're in bad shape at DE with Peterson and Marcus Thomas. I think both could do well at the position, and can hold up against the run. It's ideal position for Peterson, and plays to his strengths. Remember, you don't need much of a pass rush out of 3-4 DE's. Thier main job is to controll the LOS be stout against the run. Peterson and Thomas can both do that well from the DE spot.

Yeah i just found out he is good friends with castillo. I don't think he has visited anywhere yet. would rather get him than holiday. Sounds like he may want to stay in SD rather than get money....a rare breed.

I think Powell might be given a chance at NT too. His scouting report coming out of college indicated he has the skill set to play NT

Powell is listed at 300, which is real nice for a power base LDE in a 34 front, but pretty light for a Zero technique NT.

Then again, he could probably serve there as a rotational guy. I like him and Thomas as LDEs though. I think those two rotating on that side is actually really good young depth and talent.

Assuming Fields can start at NT we still need someone to rotate with him. BJ Raji is probably going to be gone, but Brace in the second or the big NT from Michigan (Tyrus Thomas or something like that) in the 3rd could really solidify the front three.

RDE could be Peterson and Crowder.

I think we actually have some decent young bodies in the front three except for needing a young NT.

LB is what I'm worried about...

Its been reported that Reid will drop 20lbs and move to OLB. He is listed at DT, but coach said he's going to be a LB....

Blue Run is starting to sound more and more for real. Remember he said Nolan wants his LB huge in the 6-2 260+ range or whatever.

Reid is 6'2 or something and 288- but when/ if he drops 20lbs he will be in the 260.

reid def moves well for a DT, he's a special teams standout.

fields will play NT.

i want thomas at DE. he's good against the run and can still apply pressure upfield. It'd be a waste of his skills to fatten him up and stick him at NT.

I wanted canty or someone, but the more i look at it, the more i think we might just be pretty well set at DE for the 3-4, especially if we add another in the draft, which i think we will.

Crowder isnt big enough to play DE in a 3-4.......at best he'll be a situational DE...

He's too small to be a 3-4 in a DE, but too big to be an OLB in a 3-4...

he doesnt fit in here.

But I hope Darrell Reid gets a shot...he's hellava athletic and he's just a football player.

Yeah Powell and Peterson...and if Marcus Thomas slims downs he's athletic enough to be a DE in a 3-4 also :salute:

Yes, but not particularly good ones. :coffee:

Add Thomas in there. But none of these guys has played DE in a 3-4 defense before and there's no clue if any of them can do the job.

Crowder was too light and useless to even get on the field. It's only a guess that he could play DE in a 3-4! Probably he'll be cut this off-season as a useless chode. Why is he still around? Only his third season, he doesn't cost much at this point, he's worth a look in training camp. Could be let go. Could be a bench sitter. You can't count on him even making the 53 man roster.

Peterson was re-signed and could either play at NT (I doubt he'd be any good) or DE (more likely but he's never done that in a 3-4 to my knowledge). IN any case he's been a career underachiever for 6 years. No reason to think that's suddenly going to change now, just because he went to high-school with McDaniels! (Nepotism might get you a job but won't help you DO that job!)

Powell, is a pure crap-shoot if he even makes the team. He might have been cut loose last year but he went on IR instead. Is he healthy? Can he play if healthy? Who knows? He's going to get a look in camp and might be a June cut for all we know.

Counting on any of these guys to be part of the DE rotation is like counting on winning your mortgage money at black-jack at a casino. It might happen, but the odds are not in your favor and you probably don't want to rely on it. :coffee:

Igor Olshansky-DL-Cowboys Mar. 6 - 6:39 pm et

Cowboys signed DE Igor Olshansky to a four-year undisclosed contract.
Dallas needed a replacement for Chris Canty, and Olshansky should do so for half the price. He's familiar with coach Wade Phillips's defense from back when Phillips was the coordinator in San Diego.
