The Broncos have taken a break from signing free agents from other teams to keep one of their own.

Per a league source, defensive lineman Kenny Peterson has agreed to terms with the club on a three-year deal.

Peterson, a six-year veteran, was a third-round pick of the Packers in 2003. He was cut by Green Bay in September 2006, and has spent the last three seasons with the Broncos.

He's the one guy I could live with resigning... 3-4 run-stopping DE.

Good I like Peterson, I'm glad they have re-signed him.

Looking at this I would think that we draft maybe one DE. We've got Field, Peterson, Thomas, Powell, Crowder. It looks to me like they're going to focus on NT, and LB in the draft.

If SA has his way that one defensive end will be Tyson Jackson.

Now we need some pass rushing outside backers.

U know it. I like this signing. If nothing else, he is depth to go w/ Reid and of course Tyson Jackson.

DT Peterson re-signs with Broncos

The Broncos have agreed to a three-year contract with defensive tackle Kenny Peterson.

Peterson is the first — and likely the only — of the Broncos' unrestricted free agents to return to the team for 2009.

"We're real happy," Peterson's agent, Joel Segal, said. "Kenny wanted to be back."

Peterson, at 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds, should be able to fit into the Broncos' new 3-4 defensive scheme.

Peterson played in all 16 games for the Broncos last season and started one. He made 23 solo tackles and three sacks.

Peterson also has a history with new coach Josh McDaniels, dating back to when they both played on the same high school team in Canton, Ohio, though they were separated by several grades. Peterson also played high school football with McDaniels' younger brother, Ben, who recently was hired as an offensive assistant coach for the Broncos.

I think that re-signing Kenny was a good move. IMO he can be a gametime DE in a 3-4, not great, but solid.

Good signing, solid depth. Peterson was one of the few guys on the DL last season that actually showed a motor.

Like resigning him and still can't wait to see what Powell has to offer.

Aside from Dumervil, Peterson was the only guy that actually made a play every once in a while. Good signing.

so with marcus thomas, peterson, vonnie holliday and possibly darrell reid or carlton powell, we at least have some guys with the size to play the five-technique. . . doesn't mean that any of them will excell at it, and i don't think that rotation is going to intimidate ANYONE, but at least the baseline requirement has been met. . . if nothing else, it should give us a bit more flexibility on draft day than we would have had otherwise. . . tyson jackson and jarron gilbert still look like awfully tempting picks, but we shouldn't have to force it if there's someone else there that we really like. . .

I wish they'd have never got rid of Mallard. For the short time he played, he was a difference maker.
