I do not understand this at all - was it Caldwell's fault Manning did not play all season:confused:

I don't think he or the GM should have been canned. Just ownership looking for a scapegoat when all of the NFL world knows Peyton was that team's back bone.

Yeah, but this season did expose the coach and GM for not putting suitable talent around Manning in case of injury. The Pats still went 11-5 when Brady went down, so there's really no excuse for going 2-14 without Manning.

I agree totally, but I also think that maybe this exposed the fact that maybe Manning was a little under appreciated by everyone.

For sure, and the owner is probably just as much to blame as anyone, but I can't blame him too much for dumping the coach and GM. For all we know, the owner could have wanted Luck and gotten resistance from the coach and GM or any other number of factors that we may not be privy to.

You gotta have a backup plan in case your star goes out. May not be Caldwell's fault, but we've seen teams be successful when their star QB goes out. Look at Bubby Brister for us in 1998 or Cassel for the Pats a few years back.
The point about Luck probably holds some truth to it. Though, I don't expect Luck to come in and go gangbusters like Peyton has all these years with the cast he'll have right away...

Probably not, but with Peyton hurt and probably only having a few years left, and with them being probably a few years away from surrounding him with enough talent to win again, I don't blame them if they want to just blow it all up and start over with Luck. They got a great run out of Peyton but he seems to be near the end.
The Patriots just had a better team. Tom Brady's line has always, or almost always been elite. Manning hasn't had an elite or great line since 2008, imo. They also had Randy Moss, a top three all-time WR, Wes Welker who has been the best WR in the NFL the past three years (overall), a decent defense and maybe the best coach ever.
Meanwhile Peyton pretty much carried an awful one trick pony defense by scoring infinite points. Those 'great' WR's that he has looked pretty irrelevant without Manning.
In other words, no disrespect to Brady, but this season pretty much cemented that Peyton Manning is either on the all-time short list or the GOAT.
Also, too be fair, the Patriots did miss the playoffs, but that took awful tiebreakers and they were the first 11 win team to miss in 30 years?
Firing Polian was awful. The guy was considered to be the best front office guy in the league. Yeah, it all hinges on Peyton's health, but if Polian knows he's healthy and says that whatever scenario is what he wants, you may do well to go with it.
It's utterly fascinating though, the entire scenario involves one of the best players ever, one of the best prospects ever, a great franchise and great front office guys and coaches going around a chaotic carousel.
I love it.

He was a terrible coach. Pretty sure everyone knew that though. He could only get 2 wins without Manning  Brady is better than Manning and he goes down and Belicheck still managed 11 wins. Crazy how Manning basically is that whole team.

The talent on the team now isn't much less or different than before minus an offensive lineman and a safety for the big player names gone. Certainly there wasn't enough turnover to warrant their record. Peyton would've won 10 games easy with that team.

And yet you somehow think that Brady is a better QB than Manning...

badly overrated. . .
who's wasted more picks than bill polian? it looks like they may have finally upgraded their OT spots a bit last year, but look at the absolute junk that dude has drafted in the top three rounds recently:
jerry hughes
donald brown
fili moala
anthony gonzalez
dante hughes
tony ugoh
quinn pitcock
and that's just in the last five years. . . dude hit on a handful of quality skill players who manning made look better than they are, and freeney and mathis. . . and he's lived off his rep ever since. . . we saw this year how well the rest of his "talent" did without PAYton-- the rest of polian's roster is ****ing garbage. . . plus he's an unlikable douchebag bully who was trying to foist his no-talent hack of a kid on the organization. . . it's been made VERY clear this year that PAYton IS the colts, plain and simple-- the rest of 'em are a two-win type of organization without him, from top to bottom. . . can't blame irsay a bit for canning the assclown. . .

I think Brady is a better QB than Manning. I think Belicheck is a better coach than Dungy/Caldwell and I think the Pats are better than the Colts.
Must be too hard for you to understand haha

Manning was not only their qb he was their offensive coordinator because he is known for audibles at the line of scrimmage and taking forever with the play because he is basically calling the play right there and the colts usually went no huddle if anybody should get fired it should be the offensive coordinator because he was exposed this year for not seeing things peyton manning could manning almost always audibled so he must have noticed it that the OC didn't know what he was doing

their long-term OC, tom moore, left before this season-- their OC this year (christiansen) was a rookie. . .

oh boy....
this whole 2-14 season falls on the Polians and the FO
lets be honest people, from 02-08, the foundation of what made the Colts relevant was both Tony Dungy and Manning dealing with hand me downs. Dungy worked with complete busts and yet still registered a very 'OK' D. he leaves but Peyton is still there to cover the wounds with his inhuman QB play with perennial practice squad players. now Peyton goes down, and you really see what I've been cringing about since 2007.
I myself was NEVER 100 percent behind Caldwell because I felt he was a fail coach in the making. so in hindsight, Caldwell freaking over achieved his first year with coaches the players would listen to at that moment.
however, one bad decision after another (drafts, not going for 16-0 signing aging vets, starting CURTIS F****** PAINTER) was made and you can lose the respect of every player, which is what happened to the Polians....having a coach with no balls hurts also
the overhaul was very much needed.
