View Full Version : Krieger: Despite rout, Broncos' rebuilding ahead of schedule

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — At times like these, you take your consolation where you find it. And there's plenty to be found.

Consider what you thought of the Broncos' prospects when the season began — a 4-12 team in 2010 that cleaned house, bringing in a new front office and coaching staff. It was the very definition of an organization rebuilding from the rubble of a short-lived, failed regime.

The reconstruction was going to take years. Even John Elway said so. Trying to keep expectations modest, he cautioned that he and the rest of the new brain trust would have to stack several good drafts on top of one another to get the team's talent level back to where it needed to be.

I expect this team to be a 4-6 win team next year. Unless, of course, their opponents are playing short-handed again.

Late/few draft picks is what really good teams can get away with. NOT rebuilding, low-on-talent/depth teams.

This will be an excellent year to compare the missed draft picks to the actual ones.

Winning the division, imho, has set this franchise back at least another year.

Yes, because winning is the worst thing that could happen to a franchise. Madden logic at it's best.

Don't agree at all. Coming into this season we had 2 guys on the roster that had experienced a playoff win in Orange and Blue. Game 1 next season, we'll have 35+.

There's also the extra revenue that hopefully pays off in on-field talent acquisitions. Home playoff gates are huge bonuses for teams with set budgets.

Since Xanders has been here, we've shown an ability to shuffle our picks around to get the guys we target. Picking 10-15 picks later in no way negates the experience our young squad gained playing against two Superbowl winning rosters in the playoffs.

Madden? Never played it.
And you completely missed my point. Look at the draft positioning. NOT the wins.

But just because the division is shit, this team's chances of getting possibly game changing players, has taken a huge hit.
And for what?

A PrimeTime Beatdown.

Now come back with your 'but they got some playoff experience, doood!' so i can laugh.

So we will lose our best defender, starting RB and QB to injury? All because we won a playoff game. Dang. That sucks.

Strange, that's what everyone said at the beginning of this past season...

Then we rebounded from 1-4 to win the division and just when everyone was pissing and moaning that we "backed in" we turned around a beat the 12-4 Steelers to show we belonged there.

This is the new Broncos, rc. McDouchenozzle and BOreton are gone - get over it, they aren't coming back...

You mean alive for a playoff berth on or near the final game of the season?

I will take that. Every year, as long as we take advantage most of the time.

FYI, the 15-1 GB Packers and their unbeatable offense is down 30-13 at home to the Giants with 6:00 left in the game...

Assuming they're gonna lose, they made it to exactly the same round that we did in the playoffs...

Exactly. I would venture to say only a LOSER regrets winning AFTER the fact.

I only just got onto this board last night, but I'm assuming this guy's banter wasn't being found anywhere here BEFORE the loss to the Pats?

I hope we don't have a bunch of cheese heads flooding the boards using health as an excuse.

Actually, he's been this way since we fired McDaniels last year. The icing on the cake was when we benched his boy Orton for starting off 1-4 and then later cut him.

If I was an outsider who hasn't been a member here for awhile, I'd easily mistake him for a fan of another team.

Good to know. Life/Kids/Work prevent me from being a REALLY regular forum kinda guy, but I'm gonna give it my all. I think this is going to be a VERY interesting offseason.

Experience is great, now add to the defense and some WR and hopefully we get better. Its not like the AFC West is great right now.

I am one who is not sold on Tebow. I need to see a lot more from him.

and believe me, living in Boston and having to watch the Pats kill us made me want to stick a fork in my eye.

But to think we will suck because of what happened this year does make you seem like you hate Denver. It makes zero sense.

Didnt you get anything from the good seasons of McGahee, Von Miller and Dumervil? The improvement of Demarus Thomas?

You also have no idea what denver will pick up. What we draft. Who the backup QB will be etc?

If you hate Denver so much or are so down, then what watch?

We are not the Cleveland Browns or some other joke franchises in the NFL. One really bad year recently and to me and enjoyable unexpected year this year. I will take what I can get. Just my humble op, not gospel

You do realize that there is more to building a team than what position you draft at don't you?

Apparently not. Developing players is MUCH more important than what position you draft them at. Early picks are great, but don't mean jack shit if you don't develop them.

Kind of like your posts...

Agreed on that level, only I'd add that some more running back depth might help, too, as often as we run the ball.
