Colts part ways with Darrell Reid

INDIANAPOLIS — Two days into free agency and the Indianapolis Colts have parted company with yet another defensive player. After deciding not to issue a one-year tender to weak-side linebacker Freddy Keiaho and allowing linebacker Tyjuan Hagler to enter into free agency, fourth-year defensive tackle/end Darrell Reid signed with the Denver Broncos on Saturday.

Reid, a former undrafted free agent who was signed after the 2005 NFL draft, inked a three-year, $6.8 million contract. He was an unrestricted free agent. The 6-foot-2, 298-pound defensive lineman has played in 55 games for the Colts, mostly on special teams. He had a team-high 18 special teams tackles in 2008 and has 62 career special teams tackles.

While the Freehold, N.J., native has played on the defensive line in college and with the Colts, he has primarily made a name for himself around the league on special teams. Reid’s deal with Denver is thought to be one of the biggest contracts that has been given in recent years to a player who is considered to be primarily a special teams performer.

In addition to Reid and Hagler, the remainder of Indianapolis’ unrestricted free agents include running back Dominic Rhodes, punter Hunter Smith, cornerback Keiwan Ratliff, defensive end Josh Thomas, and safety Matt Giordano.

The Denver Broncos continued their bargain-basement free-agent shopping spree, agreeing to terms with defensive tackle Darrell Reid of the Indianapolis Colts late Friday night.

Denver had reached agreement with five free agents earlier Friday - mostly on moderately priced contracts.

Reid, 26, has served as a backup on the defensive line for the Colts the past four seasons. The 6-2, 288-pounder was an undrafted free agent in 2005.

Last month, Reid was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct when he refused to leave a parking lot at a nightclub. The charges subsequently were dropped.

I could care less about who Darrell Reid is... I was just trying to divert attention away from the Battle of Dove Valley.

Nothing like getting more special teams players in here. That worked great with Webster, and Winborn, and Koutovides, and...

Welcome to the team, Mr. Reid. Try not to suck, tyvm.

Also, I will erect a shrine in your honor if you trip in the locker room one day and "accidentally" put McD face-first into a locker. Somebody should do it for this moronic SNAFU with Cutler, and you don't seem to mind being disorderly.

I heard the rumor that they may be looking at him as an OLB. If he can start there that would be fantastic and would go a long way towards justifying his salary. Really if he even makes it into the rotation and see the field other than as a special teamer.
