Denver Post:

There's been a glitch in the contract between the Broncos and running back J.J. Arrington.

The Broncos and Arrington had reached an agreement in principal Friday on a four-year contract, according to the player's agent J.R. Rickert. But in reading through the contract language, some issues arose that threaten to kill the deal.

"J.J's back in Arizona,'' Rickert said. ""The deal's not dead yet.''

There is enough concern, however, for the Broncos to bring in free-agent running Derrick Ward for a visit today. The Broncos had rated Ward as the No. 1 back in this year's class but his initial asking price was beyond their budget.

A splendid backup to Brandon Jacobs with the New York Giants the past two seasons, Ward was seeking a deal similar to the six-year, $34.5 million contract Michael Turner received from Atlanta last season. Turner previously had been a backup to LaDainian Tomlinson in San Diego.

Ward's asking price, however, may be slipping to the Broncos' range after he visited Philadelphia and Cincinnati but left without a contract.

I would only be alright with Ward if we payed him < $3 million per year

Problem is...Ward = Buckhalter as far as styles go. JJ has a separate skill set.

Ward had some huge games. I'm all for bringing him in.. I think he can be a starter in this league.

I like Ward. Now that his price has decreased, he may be a pleasent surprise. How pissed must Correll be about now?

that son of a bitch is 29 years old....no way he's worth $5-$6 million per year. He's worth $3 million per year or less than that.

Ward has virtually no wear and tear for his age. Signing him would be the smartest free agent decision they could possibly make. He would instantly vault to the expected starter.

Ward is not burner, but hes the type of back that excels in our system. So is Buckhalter.

Thing about Arrington is hes a KR also.

That would be fine as long he's gotten it out of his head that he's not going to get Micheal Turner money.

Derrick Ward and Ryan Torain would be a good 1-2 punch combo.

DENVER IS THE NEXT STOP FOR DERRICK WARD

With his free-agency visit to Cincinnati completed, running back Derrick Ward is on his way to Denver, according to a league source.

Ward will meet with Broncos officials on Sunday.

He’s regarded as one of the top running backs on the market, and several teams have expressed interest. His age (28) could be impacting the magnitude of any offers that the former Giant has received.

Signing him would make me happy. Regardless of all the no names/depth, a weekend in which we acquire Dawkins, Ward, and even Andra Davis would be a successful one IMHO.

Ugh...unless he comes cheap I'd rather the team find their own RB in the draft.

yes Ward is 28, which is up there for a RB (esspecially a high profiled one coming into FA) but Ward has only carried the ball 342 times in his entire NFL career... Players have had more carries in a year

I would love for Denver to have a back field of Ward/Hillis/Buckhalter .... All are big versatile backs that can move the chains.

What kinda system would that be? We're not gonna run the same offense you are used to I bet.

Anyways, if we are screwing Arrington by finding a loop-hole out of the contract I will be pissed at the FO for being shady. Already enough drama going on as is.
