Dawkins signs-Schefter Confirmed

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Denver signs free agent safety Brian Dawkins to a five-year, $17 million deal that includes $7.2 million guaranteed. The contract also has escalators that could boost the value of the deal to $27 million over five years, but the deal also could be voided to two years, $9 million.

5 years??

He'll be using a walker by then.

I would expect 2 years out of him til we get some younger talent experience.

SO think of it as a two year 9 mil contract. And Dawkins is not just some guy.

Good signing.

Good deal.

John Lynch was old too.

Good deal.

John Lynch was old too.

Dawkins might slide on the back end, but he is going to ruffle some feathers on the defensive guys left over from last year. Something Champ and DJ are incapable of.

Anyone else worried about our secondary? If Andre Goodman is signed, our starting secondary would all be 30+

After watching Bly, Bell, Manuel, Abdullah, Barrett, Lowry, Williams, Paymah, etc....no, I am not worried.

Yeah, because they also canceled the draft this year.

From what it looks like we are adding stop gap players in the secondary and will get young in the front 7. That's just my speculation though.

That's obvious. If they plan on adding younger corners and safeties, it will be late second day.

The "plan" seems pretty obvious now that we see the rubber meeting the road.

Get some veteran starters at reasonable contracts and draft young guys to learn how to replace those same guys as soon as they are capable.

We still need a NT badly...

It's to me looking like they believe that they can find a stop gap nose tackle and still draft a couple to develop for the future.

Exactly! :listen:

So we need to go get that veteran NT and then draft another up and comer.

Colin Cole and Ron Brace?

Ron Fields and Terrance Taylor?
