Al davis strikes from the grave!
Tom Cable never should have been fired. Hue Jackson was a power hungry maniac.
Glad he was there long enough to sabotage the Raiders next couple drafts though.

I think Jackson ws the best thing for that team, glad he's gone.

I thought that for the first part of the year... But the Carson Palmer trade was universally denounced... And then Jackson throwing his team under the bus in press conferences was horrendous form to finish out the year. Not to mention their inability to win the division despite it being on a platter for them.
If I'm a Raiders fan, I'm breathing a sigh of relief that he's gone.

I actually liked his press conference and the statements he made. He's been taking the blame every week and taking it upon himself all year. He laid it out on the line and flat out said "coaches can only do so much, but when it comes down to it, the players are the ones that play the game." He just had the balls to say what everyone has been saying. The coaches can only do so much, players need to take accountability.
I liked it.
But speaking of not taking division... that should be on Norv Turner's head.

Nah - you can't ever say that as a coach unless you're prepared to forgo any credit for wins as well. The Palmer trade and the end of year press conference were grounds enough for firing IMO regardless of what else he had done there.
I'm with you on Norv. I'd be pissed if I were a Bolts fan.

What killed Jackson was his talk of becoming more "heavy handed" in all things Raiders. Acted as if he already had the power s of a GM and could make decisions unilaterally.
Not surprising at all he was given the boot.
Awful firing. Hue is a tough love guy. He kept Chad in line in Cincinnati.
He missed the playoffs because Campbell went down and McFadden did as well.
He's a solid coach, and while he may have earned being fired later on oak just killed continuity for the sake of killing continuity.

yep. . . he looked like a solid coach for them, but it didn't take long for him to reveal himself as a complete megalomaniac. . . in the past weeks he's been strutting around like he owns the team, making proclamations about how he's going to get more involved in personnel and picking the GM, and all that-- it's utterly hilarious to see him get unceremoniously tossed out on his face instead. . .
and i love the fact that the fade will be starting from scratch yet again, only down next year's first. . . they better hope mckenzie can get somebody from green bay-- who the hell else will want to go coach there with such fresh evidence that dysfunction is alive and very well in oakland?

I'm sure the next coach they hire will be the real deal. It's like this every year.
What the Raiders need is a real front office, maybe this new GM is a step in the right direction. Either way it's still funny.

I was actually hoping the Broncos would interview Mckenzie for the GM position last year.
With Al gone, they may actually have a chance to turn it around.

Like I said last year when Tom Cable was let go, 8-8 isn't good enough for the Oakland Raiders. Maybe it's good enough for other teams, but here in Oakland we have higher expectations for our team.
This team is littered with talent everywhere and should've easily won this crappy division this year. Instead we let a mediocre team like the Broncos (No offense) back their way into the playoffs. All we had to do was win one more game down the stretch and we couldn't do it.
That's Unacceptable. Hue Jackson had to go.
Under Reggie McKenzie's guidance, The Raiders will go to new heights. He will model this organization after the Green Bay Packers. He was the #1 available GM candidate out there, and we got him. The Raiders will be one of best ran organizations out there under him.

You mean like Pioli "modeled" the Chiefs after the Patriots? Or how McDouchbag tried to "model" the Broncos after the Patriots?
Good luck to Reggie McKenzie, he's got a shitload of work to do...
You can start by:
-Finding an offensive minded HC who's really good at his job
-Drafting a QB like Aaron Rodgers
-Completely revamping your O-line from one that is good at run blocking and shitty at pass protection to one that is 180 out
-Finding a new DC that doesn't completely suck ass
-Finding a new MLB to replace McClain who will be doing some prison time
-throwing out half of your roster because they have more interest in the name on the back of their jersey than the one on their helmet
-reclaiming your fan base so you don't black out home games all the time
... In one year and all this without a first round pick... good luck!
Hue was fired for telling the truth. The Raiders have never handled the truth well. If they can't cheat to win it or sue someone to get their way, they probably won't earn it for themselves.

This looks eerily something like "The gangster Hue Jackson has been judged by people's tribunal and found to be reactionary bourgeois enemy of people and has been liquidated. Under leadership of new Comrade Reggie McKenzie shall we achieve goals of 5 year plan in only one year, reaching new levels of productivity as we shatter all previous records of tractor production. He is probably on to something. Seems like ever since Callahan thats what they have tried to do. Callahan takes them to a SB the first year he gets there and gets owned by the previous HC.
I guess the apple doesnt fall far from the tree when it comes to running that team.
I was not aware that Al's boy is more hideous and chudly than papa Davis.
Hue is a fiery guy and proud. Like I said, he had a lot to do with keeping Ocho and T.J. in line. He's been a pretty good offensive coordinator and the Raiders were improving.
They're not, as I'm sure everyone knows, this super talented team that dipshit says they are. That defensive kept getting gashed and that offense needed time to gel when Palmer came back in.
This is one of the worst firings in a long time. I'm actually happy for Hue Jackson because his name is respected around the league. He may have to be a coordinator again for a year or two but he will have another good shot.
I think the last 2 firings were absolutely atrocious. If there were any 2 guys that seemed to have it heading in the right direction, it was Cable and Hue. They keep shooting themselves in the foot and it's going to be 15 year playoff drought instead of 9. :tsk:

The truth lies somewhere in between your complete homer take and our anti-Raider venom.
Hue Jackson WAS respected around the league until he completely mishandled every possible aspect of his job over the last month... His end of year press conference will live in infamy on what not to do with that platform. His tyrade after being fired was completely classless and again a HUGE public relations gaffe.
He definitely will never get another head coaching gig - and he has no one but himself to blame.
Buff, I love you, but you're so wrong it hurts. He didn't mismanage anything. Plenty of coaches, good and bad have gone on tirades like that. Coughlin and Rex Ryan on the good side, Singletary and McDaniels, although his was in private on the other.
No one is going to remember this other than another early or strange Raiders firing. That thought is completely placed in your head because you hate the Raiders. A first year coach going 8-8 with a meh team is going to be the first thing people see. Then they see that Hue accomplished that in Oakland of all places. Oakland, one of the few franchises that gives my team a run for their money in ineptitude.

Every NFL analyst/reporter/talking head disagrees with you. He has been universally denounced for his conduct.
Most NFL coaches don't direct the tirade at their own players. When has Rex Ryan ever thrown his team under the bus like that? He does the exact opposite - he owns all of the criticism and shields his players.
I couldn't disagree with you more. I think he basically performed what amounts to career suicide over the last 3 months, as if it wasn't bad enough that they made the horrendous Palmer trade and then collapsed to miss the playoffs. The guy's stock couldn't be any lower. He will probably get on as an offensive asst somewhere because of his connections, but again, no chance he ever gets any consideration to be the head guy somewhere.
Eric Mangini, Romeo Crennel, Wade Phillips, Norv Turner, Jim Mora Jr.
Those are all guys who have had insanely ugly moments in their coaching careers. Most of those guys have tanked worse than Jackson did. They've all gotten second chances.
Even Brad Childress is a name being talked about right now as a head coach candidate. I would swear up and down that he's one of the worst coaches I have ever seen in my life.
You don't remember last year when Rex Ryan threw his defense under the bus and blamed them for losing a game? I believe it was a game that they held their opponent to under 17 points and their offense scored 10 points and had some bad turnovers.
A year from now only Raider fans and...you will remember this. Look what Hue got out of those WR's this year. Look what they had done previously. He had talent to work with, I'm not saying he's Lombardi, but he can coach.
That's the bottom line in the end.

If one person here said the franchise will be better run after Al Davis is gone… but you were JOKING… step up.
The glaring weakness in the Davis regime was him forcing staff on staff. Now the exec will pick his people and let his people pick their people. You guys are acting like Al Davis fired him and plans on firing another coach next season, or that no coach would want to work with the Raiders as long as … what was that again? I think it was the wrong move, but not the worst thing in the world that's happened to the Raiders since January 2002.
I'm waiting for the moves to come to fold for next year and beyond. We have plenty of talent on offense and some on defense... including Lamaar Houston... and plan on revamping the defense with the staff of choice. Health is the biggest question on our offense, and Palmer’s progression of course. But we'll have a cohesive staff across the board for the first time since who knows when. Maybe we won't get a coach like Cable to molest the division and fail outside of it (he’s doing wonders in Seattle by the way lol) and maybe firing Hue for choking a playoff spot away was done in haste. But remember all of your words about Davis' grip on the franchise and what it would take (his removal as owner/GM) for the Raiders to get better. Unless you’re changing your minds now.

I think Al really believed in Hue Jackson and is spinning in his grave right now. It's sad to think a coach doesn't get another season after going 8-8 in his first year. This is a power grab by Mark Davis, nothing more. He felt threatened by Jackson's comments and decided to fire him because he was scared of him. I'd bet McKenzie and Jackson could've done very well together. Jackson is a hell of an offensive playcaller and I think he brought a blunt, no BS attitude to the team.
If McKenzie pulls an Al Davis and brings in another weak-willed, but coordinator smart coach like Norv Turner or Lane Kiffin because he wants a guy he can push around the Raiders are doomed. You guys need a Tom Coughlin type. Jeff Fisher or Bill Cowher would be PERFECT for the Raiders. Leading the league in penalties? Undisciplined play? Getting in trouble off the field? All things that you need a strong HC to fix. McKenzie won't be coaching the players from his office. The Raiders have all the talent in the world... they need a big Hammer to drive those nails straight.

What sucks is that gone with Al Davis is his vision with Hue and the players, which is why it may not have worked with McKenzie's plan. Still, Al should've let go of the defense and most likely we make the playoffs.
I hate the timing more than the move. Timing has been pretty bad since Davis died. Not as bad as Mark's haircut, but pretty bad.
