A co-worker and I were talking about this earlier today (he's a Bears fan, and agreed). Am I out of my mind with this? (we were talking about Top 5, but when I had the chance tonight I expanded it to 10)

Top 10 Plays in Denver Broncos history

1. The Helicopter.
2. Elway to Jackson on The Drive.
3. Elway to Rod in the Super Bowl against Atlanta.
4. Tebow to Demaryius Thomas in OT.
5. Atwater smashes Okoye on MNF.
6. Terrell takes the lead against Green Bay.
7. The quarterback sneak.
8. Ed McCaffrey's block.
9. Elway to Vance Johnson on fourth and forever.
10. Bailey intercepts Brady.

Jog my memory MO, which "QB sneak"?

The one with Schlereth and John hamming it up at the bottom of the pile?

Oh, and, these are most memorable, not most important...

Atwater's huge hit on 3rd down in SB XXXII has to be 10a.

Also TD's run against the Seahawks that put him over 2000 yds.

Rod's first catch which was a deep ball on the last play to beat the Redskins.

John Mobley knocking down Favre's final pass.

I swear I had a valid thought while reading this post, and then ESPN put on a scantily clad member of the LSU dance team, and that thought just went right out the window.

Great points Chazoe.

Allen Aldridge's INT against Pitt and Romo giving Kordell the dumbass hand to forehead gesture over and over.

Shannon Sharpe catching the big 3rd down pass in that same game. John rifled that ball in so hard I was surprised any human could catch that ball.

John's 300th career TD pass which came in his final regular season game. I was at the game and I'll never forget it. Sharpe caught it and he went and kissed Thunder on the sidelines.

It's a shame sometimes but I think for some reason Sharpe is kind of the forgotten superstar from those teams. He had a hand in so many of our memorable plays it's ridiculous.

one of Elway's passes that stuck out was in 97 or 98 in Seattle he hit Rod deep for 70 yards, ball was in the air for 40-50 or so.

I remember watching Elway throw and nobody was in that direction the Rod took off from right sideline and caught it on the right side and went into endzone. That kind of accuracy was mind boggling to me at the time.

For some reason, the first play of the Superbowl against the Redskins always comes to mind for me. Bomb down he sideline to Jackson for the opening TD.

The rest of that game is forgettable though.

I'll go with the top 10 of my memories of the Broncos, which start around 1997.

1. Elway Helicopter
2. Bomb to Smith against ATL
3. Tebow to DT
4. Champ pick against NE
5. Elam's 63 yard FG
6. TD going over 2000
7. Stokley's "immaculate reception"
8. Bailey's pick-6 vs. SD
9. Tebow's drive against NY
10. The Hochuli play

Another one I'll always remember and I bring it up quite often is Champ's INT of Brees that he ran in for a TD. That play IMO was a huge turning point of our season. It may be a bit dramatic but I honestly wonder if we make the AFCCG without that play?

I didn't even think about that play, hell didn't even cross my mind, and that's why I say it doesn't belong. Yesterday's play was epic, on more than just a Bronco fan level. I haven't even seen a replay of that Jet's play on any network recently...

I'd say the Houston drive was more memorable because it was his first comeback.

Those were the days. Remember when it was possible for a QB to have a day that bad because the DBs were actually allowed to play full contact football. Now if a QB has 3 ints it's a disaster. Not that 3 ints is good but shit, it used to happen all the time. Even the greats would regularly throw multiple picks in a game because the coverage was so much tighter.

Ok, it was a long time ago and my memory is fuzzy, but I remember Louis Wright picking up a blocked FG and returning it for a TD against Green Bay in the snow. I want to say it happened twice that game, but I can't remember if Wright did it both times. It was a long time ago, but still memorable enough for me to remember it (somewhat).

I also remember a goal line stand against the Oilers where Earl Campbell had an almost clear path to the end zone. On tv you saw Campbell disappear into a mass of humanity on one side and coming from the other direction at full speed was Randy Gradishar. It's one of the few times I ever saw Campbell go backward.

I was a kid for both of those plays, but they still stick out.

That's a great play, but the one I was thinking of happened against GB and I remember it was snowing. I'll see if I can find it. Of course, I'm old and the old thinky thing isn't what it used to be.
Edit - this is probably what I was thinking of.http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/198410150den.htm They were just fumble returns. I was probably confusing it with the blocked kick from the Youtube video. Sue me, it was almost 30 years ago. :D

Here's my personal list of top 12 bronco plays that I posted here back in 2010 after going through some old videos. I'll say the Tebow to DT play should be around 5a on this list. Sure got this old fart off his feet! (I was in the north stands yesterday; on this list I saw #12, #9, #7, #6, and #2 in person)

#12 Craig Morton throws the clinching touchdown to Jack Dolbin on December 24, 1977 to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Broncos first playoff game ever:

<object height="385" width="640"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/42B7ryWx_ds&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/42B7ryWx_ds&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="640"></embed></object>

#11: John Elway throws a touchdown pass to Ricky Nattiel on the Broncos first offensive play in Super Bowl 22:

#10 Gradishar's Long TD. Randy Gradishar intercepts a pass from Cleveland's Brian Sipe and runs 93 yards for a touchdown - the longest interception return for a td in Bronco history:

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1iLDRiADQEY&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1iLDRiADQEY&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

#9
Louie Wright returns a field goal blocked by Dennis Smith to beat San Diego in Overtime in this 1985 game:

All good plays.
How about Elway the first QB to catch a pass in the superbowl (Sewel to Elway 23 yards against redskins).

Another memorable play was San Francisco lining up for a short field goal with 3 seconds left in the snowball game. Just as the holder sits down the ball a snowball lands next to it, SF misses the field goal and loses game.

Oh, but do I remember that game! IIRC, the Broncos sacked Namath . . . what,
six times? On one play, Dave Costa screamed up the middle and gave
Namath a clocking that I'll bet Namath never forgot . . . in fact, now that
I think of it, Dumervil's sacking of Brady takes me back to that event.

The Broncos intercepted Namath a few times, too, as I remember. I didn't
have too many really joyful times with the Broncos in the '60s, but that
game most definitely was one . . .

I was at that game where we beat the Jets after their superbowl year. As I recall we picked off Namath 6 times, don't know how many sacks. I remember sitting in the North stands at old mile high and almost getting a football that sailed right at us on a point after. The guy in front of us jumped up and caught it, but I still remember that ball coming our way. I was probably 12 or so at the time.

It was Ricky Nattiel for the TD. Youngest player to score in a Super Bowl, at least at the time. I so thought they were going to win that game after that play. Doug Williams 2nd quarter was just unfair after that.

In all fairness, they do show the Jets run on NFL Network a lot. I agree there are even several plays from this Sunday however that could well take its place. If any Tebow run I'd say his first against the Raiders last year.

Ivjy8g4Jkq8absoFRAKIN lutely ! TURNERS catch for a TD at the end of the half totally demoralized the raiders ! Its exemplified what I have always said about football and why I love it so much ! the opponent may be bigger, faster and stronger, but if you are SMARTER and play with HEART you can win !
Let me add just for its historical importance, MARLIN BRISCOE his first completed pass was the first by a black man as a QB in pro football.
...and I am an old fart so FLOyD LITTLE inducted at CANTON is easily one of my top ten, and I will continue to hold a top ten spot open until TD gets his JUSTIFIED recognition !

The Snow Bowl. One of the famous Albuquerque lows started dumping snow on Denver just a couple of hours before the Monday night game. By kickoff there was 6 to 12 inches of snow on the ground. Denver lost the toss and GB received the KO. First play from scrimmage GB fumbled the ball which was picked up and returned for a TD by the Orange Crush!

On the ensuing KO, Green Bay fumbled again which was returned by the Denver ST for another TD. In the first 60 seconds of the game GB was down 14-0.

Denver held on to win the game 17-14 and the Colorado ski areas posted record years because of the snow storm televised on MNF.

I remember watching that Champ interception with my roomy who was a hardcore Pats fan. I still cant believe that Champ slowed down (figured he was a shoe in for TD) and got creamed at the 1 yard line by the TE.

Yep, that was the Jim Turner TD catch game. What better way to embarrass and emasculate the damned Raiders than a TD pass to one of the slowest guys ever to don an NFL uniform?

Second best win after SB XXXII for me. Beating the Squealers on Sunday may be number 3

Ther was also that play where that Kicker from Minnesota missed that chip shot FG for his first miss all year...vs Atlanta.

WHat makes that play even better is just before that play the kick was blocked and Louis Wright ran it back for a TD but Denver was offsides.

That was probably my earliest Bronco memory. I remember my aunt and uncle going crazy.

Steve Watson's three TD catches, 1981

thgtvkC7_0M

That was Watson's breakout game. And Morton had a howitzer arm.

And then I remember Watson's 80-yard pinball YAC. I don't now remember the
year or the game, but I remember he took off and bounced off about three
defenders on his way to a TD. Just a jaw-dropping run. Perhaps another old-timer
can help me on when that was.
