I don't know if this has been done, and apologize if this is a repeat thread.

Who did one of the best cover songs ever?

I just listened to Otep do "Bleed" by Nirvana and I like it a lot.

Two of my favorites are when Redman, Kieth Murray, and Eric Serman covered Rappers Delight, (Also when the old lady did it in the Wedding Singer) and the Roots cover of Dougie Fresh and Slick Rick's "The Show"

You're All I've Got Tonight (The Cars)
Dancing in the Moonlight (Thin Lizzy)
The Joker (Steve Miller Band)
Landslide (Fleetwood Mac)
Dreaming (Blondie)
We're All Clones (Alice Cooper)

And Marilyn Manson did some good 80's covers:

Never really been a massive fan of covers, to be honest, although I'll always be grateful to the Far Corporation for covering Stairway To Heaven...............that was my introduction to Led Zep..............

One individual cover that springs to mind, and is probably my favourite, is the Manic Street Preachers' version of Suicide is Painless (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-g0aBYVCgE), better known as the theme from M*A*S*H. :thrasher:

I've also got a couple of half decent covers albums, Def Leppard's 'Yeah' (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yeah-Def-Leppard/dp/B000FORA5E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1235178068&sr=8-1), which is mostly 70s Classics such as 20th Century Boy, Waterloo Sunset & Don't Believe A Word, and Tom Jones' 'Reloaded' (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Reload-Tom-Jones/dp/B000025ALZ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1235178271&sr=1-4), which is the old Welsh rocker collaberating with various artists on different songs such as Lust for life with The Pretenders, Are you gonna go my way with Robbie Williams & Sexbomb with Mousse T.

Actually, they are Gothic Metal. Mixing some clean vocals with a little rough vocals and some female vocals as well. You would probably get into them a little bit. Here is a song from one of their past albums.

One of my favorite bands in a long, long time.

My favorite ever is one most of you probably never heard of. Sophie Ellis Bextor's "Take Me Home" originally performed by Cher.

Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" originally performed by Aretha Franklin, as well as Gaye's Star Spangled Banner in Los Angeles back in 1982, probably the best version of them all.

Johnny Cash's Ring Of Fire by Social Distortion.

Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney, since that song has been played over and over and over...

i'll always love this song after hearing him play it at reggae on the rocks in '03. . . easily the best concert i've ever been to! israel vibration was playing when we got there, and then the original wailers-- and they freakin' killed it. . . . we were having a great time, but it was kinda windy and had been drizzling for most of the day. . . as the wailers were finishing up just before dusk, the clouds finally blew over and the setting sun came out-- if you've been to red rocks, you can imagine how incredible that was. . . and then, jimmy cliff comes on stage, and opens with what else? naturally. . . i can see clearly now the rain has gone. . . . :elefant:

it was too freakin' perfect. . . .

I don't have a problem with Lennon, during or after the Beatles, but everybody keeps telling me what an inspirational song "Imagine" is, and all I can hear while he's singing it is that he's pleading for the human race to become lobotomized so they can stop caring about anything, and that way they'll stop fighting over stuff.

It seems vaguely creepy to me, and Maynard's version gets across that creep factor for me, makes it a bit unsettling. I like it.

Kruder and dormeister cover(sampling) of depeche modes useless.

probably mentioned but Johnny cash' Hurt is better than the original. and the original is good.

primus covering hello skinny/sinister exaggerator by the residents is great, if you like weird music.

harold, even Joy division butchered that song, and it was their song. The Cure attempted to cover it, IIRC, and theirs might have been better, but it's still hard. Just a hard, hard song to do. ;) I'll have to look for the Swans version, I guess.

The piano didn't blow up at the end of Faith No More, Skinny - I'm disappointed.

I always saw Imagine as a deeply negative song. Lennon's calm voice just masks the meaning of it, IMO, which is really that the Earth would be better off without us, or that mankind would be a lot better off without most of its institutions; I find both of them true, so I think it's a good song. APC does capture the actual mood of the song, though, which is why I think it's one of the better covers of any song ever. I'd put Johnny Cash's "Hurt" up there too. I think a good cover is one that takes the song and makes it their own, and I think both groups did it with those two.

Dropping a Joy Division reference and a Maynard reference just got you some serious cool points with me Dread.

Never mistake my eccentricity for "Cool." I am not cool, nor could I pretend to be. But thank you for the Compliment. It might also not surprise you that Mrs. D views my taste in music with pure horror.

A few popular songs I end up liking. Overall, Mr Gnome is scared of my music tastes. ;)

I would walk 500 miles- covered by Less Than Jake...

(gnomey i know you said you hated this song, but LTJ does a great job imo.)

I love those guys- good music and they are funny too.

Another funny cover- the song sucks but they make it enjoyable to hear is

"we go together"- from Grease soundtrack....I like that cover too, hilarious.
