In compliance with BF policy to respect copyright laws, I will only re-post a few paragraphs:

Voss, Norway native Knut Rokne would surely be proud. Gå Broncos, Gå Norway?

The sport appeals to higher powers before, during or after matches and goals are not new.

Denver Broncos quaterback Tim Tebow is thus no exception, but the attention he gets for its easily recognizable prayer pose is special.

The term "tebowing" is in fact now been recognized as a separate word in the English language, that people across the U.S. now goes down on one knee and bows his head in all possible situations, and then to publish the picture on the internet.

Google Translate is cool.

Careful! Norway and Sweden aren't the best of friends.

Norway and Sweden have a sibling like rivalry. At the end of the day, they still have a strong relationship.

Now if you go back to the 1800's and early 1900's that story might be a little different.

Yes, but that would have obscured my point that even NORWEGIAN newspapers are printing articles on Tebow (or at least Tebowing) now.

Scandinavian relationships definitely qualify for the "it's complicated" tag. Norway seems to get along with everyone better than most everyone else does, which is ironic considering it's been a fiefdom of both Sweden AND Denmark. I rely on "Scandinavia and the World" to educate me on all Scandinavia relationships, and this example provides a great illustration of what I mean:

Fun fact: When Norway gained independence from Sweden in 1905 (in no small part because Sweden realized it couldn't keep them if they really wanted to go,) it invited a junior member of the Danish royal family to be the "Norwegian" king since Haakon V in 1319.

I am part Norwegian. My father is proud of that heritage, but I wasn't raised to hate Swedes as most Norwegians do (I guess). I have not really cared for Swedes that I have met though. they are arrogant yet really kinda dorky or something.

I dont' think your wife would appreciate you commenting on her private parts in a public forum. If you don't like her volvo, quit living the lie and get a divorce. otherwise you are kinda cheating her.

I'm a strange mix of Scottish and Swedish.... I have blue eyes, but I try to avoid wearing a kilt.

The Swede's are the most easy going people I've ever met. Norwegians too, but the Swede's just seem more relaxed. At least the one's I've hung out with. Never met a dorky Swede, but I'm sure they're out there.

Swedish music is the best though. There is a certain cheesiness too it that makes it enjoyable.

I'm just thinking of major prof I had in grad school. He was condescending and arrogant. Politically he was a socialist. He died unexpectantly halfway through the program (no I didn't have anything to do with it) looking back, I think I had a real disdain for the man. He was an ass

Totally understand that! Swede's do think on a socialist level from time to time, but usually that's the older ones. If it is a smart Swede they'll tell you why socialism would never work in the USA, but does work for them. That's a pretty cool discussion to have.

As someone that's been to all of those countries, I can confidently say that they all have similar customs, but very different personality types. Obvioiusly I'm talking in generalities, but from my experience, Swedes were by far the most friendly and helpful among the Scandinavian countries.

That's hard for a Norwegian like myself to admit.:tsk: lol

Overall though, they're all great, clean countries that are bilingual and fun to visit.

That last part is a mixed blessing when you move here; I have to FORCE myself to practice my (very bad) Norwegian, because otherwise I could speak English exclusively and get away with it 99% of the time. I'll never learn the language doing that though, and three decades of insisting immigrants should learn the language of their new country would make me a hypocrite if I didn't do it myself.

What's interesting is that Norway is FAR more secular than the US, yet has a state church and a CRAPTON of federal religious holidays. Pretty much the whole country will be shut down all next week, and it's much the same at Easter. Not to mention the fact there are less stores open on Sunday than anywhere outside Alabama.

cam has it about right, from what I've seen; they talk a fair amount of smack at each other but get along pretty well and identify closely with each other. As a general rule, however, I wouldn't screw with any of them: http://satwcomic.com/don-t-mess-with-aland

That's exactly how I felt when I was there. I learned a fair amount of Swedish(enough to have a simple conversation) ahead of time, but I still felt bad having the locals "cater" to me.

Discipline, commitment and a little self confidence never hurt. I'm starting to pick it up, and for a native English speaker who had four years of German in HS it should come pretty naturally if I put in the effort.

Agreed on lutefisk; I think it's an acquired taste. HOWEVER, ribbe are delicious; like ribs wrapped in bacon, and pinnekjøtt is good, too. Almost made that Bills game bearable... almost.... :tsk:
