View Full Version : Changes coming to BroncosForums after the season ends
To get full reach, I'm doing this here instead of in the Town Hall.
Just a heads up. Sometime between the end of the season and the draft, I will be finally upgrading to vBulletin 4.x. There are many reasons to do this from improved security, to improved features (like a better editor for creating new posts) and the fact that no new features are being added to the older versions of vBulletin.
I've held off because the look & feel has changed a little. Things like the User CP isn't called User CP and there is a different way to get to it. The search area has changed. A number of things like that. As we are all creatures of habit, I've held off the last two seasons making the change, but it's time.
For the mobile users, that prefer web access to one of the mobile apps, there is a greatly improved mobile site that is much more functional than the current mobile.BroncosForums.com. It still probably won't have Hi-Five functionality, but otherwise should be pretty full featured.
The Casino may very well go, but I don't think many people use it. Other than the Casino, I think the changes will mostly be cosmetic.
Once I get a test site up and running sometime in the next 2-6 weeks, I may invite some people to play around and give feedback.
Also, there will be some optional features that we will need to decide if we want to use, such as allowing forum members (either everyone, or with certain number of posts) to be able to create blogs on BF and stuff like that.
I'll give more details on the option features as I did into it more.

Just a reminder on this. If nothing comes up, I am going to start this weekend working on the conversion plan and creating an orange & blue style that works with vBulletin 4.x, as well as figuring out if there are any problems with things like the "High 5" system, etc.
Unless things really go smooth, we are probably at least a couple weeks away, but I wanted to remind everyone about the upcoming changes.

I'm going to shoot for a very similar look. Maybe some better looking buttons or things like that if MS has time to help out.

Yea, I've wanted to switch for a while. I paid for the license 18-24 months ago (whenever it was released), but many of our posters are comfortable and even changing the order of the top nav bar creates anxiety. So, I've been putting it off as long as possible, since the general interface is quite a bit different. That said, it won't take anyone very long to get used to it.

I did one test conversion and while they are supposed to have a wizard/converter to make a style similar to your vB 3.x style, it was crap. They've changed the way you customize sites.
Once I get some time to put a test site back up and get it looking mostly like we have, I'll recruit some of you guys to play around and help test.

Is there any technical help that you need? I'd love to re-write the youtube tag so that it will accept both the full youtube address as well as work as it currently does.

If you want to take a look at that, it would be great. I haven't checked, there might even be a better BBcode for that on vbulletin.org.
