View Full Version : Server 2008 Hard drive filling up

I have looked around and haven't really seen a concrete andswer to the problem.

I have windows server 2008 on one of my boxes at home.

The hard drive is rapidly disappearing, like gigs per day.

What causes this and how can I rectify the situation?

My assumption is that it is some kind of massive log files being placed somewhere...but I can't find anything that large anywhere.

My friend is an IT guy I'll try and forward him this question. Off the top of my head, I can only imagine maybe its doing automatic backups? No clue.

Is it just a member server? Exchange? Does it have symantec on it? Are you backing stuff up locally or are you using Veritas? Whats the extension of the files that are filling it up?

If you download and install treesize, it should help you identify where all your space is being used. That's what our IT help desk uses to track down this kind of problem.

Full blown windows server 2008 enterprise Clay. No Norton stuff on it.

No idea what types of files it is as there is nothing I have found yet that seems to be taking up that kind of room.

TNed I will take a look at the program you suggested when I get home.

Seems a .ldf file from my sql server install is holding 36,303.5 MB of data...

I will have to get in there and do something about that.

Probably have your log file set to autogrow and aren't backing up/dumping it regularly. We've had that happen a few times and ran out of disk space.
