OK, seriously, this is beyond absurd. ESPN actually pays money to this stiff, too :tsk:

Rick Reilly Tweets That He Hired Lipreader To See If Tim Tebow Swore During Game

He cannot be serious, can he? Because if he is, pardon my French, but Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick! Talk about #Real…stupid.

But really, this has got to be some kind of joke, right? Right? At the same time, with all the money ESPN is paying this guy to churn out rehashed, hackneyed drivel, he probably does have enough cash just sitting there that he could use to pay lipreaders to stalk Tim Tebow on the sidelines. He is also a big enough of a doofus to come up with this kind of idiotic plan.

I didn't take the time to read the article, but I hope this is a joke.

If it is serious, it is pretty disheartening that the biggest sports media outlet is going out of their way to find dirt on TT.

Let the man be...He's not perfect (nobody is), so if they find anything it wouldn't change my opinion of Tim.

If true, this is a sad example of where we are as a society today that people want to find anything they can to tear down someone who is just trying to do some good.

Seriously? It sounds to me like we need to get the fanbois on to his twitter account.... Maybe he could hire someone to comb his twitter feed to locate the one tweet not telling him he's a ******* idiot.

Tim Tebow walks the walk. I hired a lipreader to see if he swore during Vikings game. Not once. Worst was an angry: "Let's go!" #Real

So it was just for a game. But what a low life, how lame is his life.

i LOVE this. at least it's inventive and distinct, as opposed to the piles of regurgitated tebow opinions every sports outlet (sans deadspin) is producing.

at this point i can summarize 97 percent of all tebow articles: he can't throw, he's not accurate, but he's a winner, he has a large fan base, etc.

Reminds me of a few years ago, when a fair bit of ink was spilled over whether Philip Rivers swears. Nonsense.

He wrote the following article, after the Minnesota game, which I started a thread on, and if the lipreader did see something, I would imagine Reilly would have included it in this article:

The lip reader saw Tebow and Rachel Nichols in the locker room and thought he saw Tim say "I want to **** you on the floor."

But he really said he wanted to vacuum the floor.

Ok, that was dumb.

Rick Reilly is full of S***, I remember seeing a interview during camp and he was all over the Tebow is the 4th best QB on the roster crap. Dude, My thinking is OK critic his skill set and all great but when he wins running it or throwing it like he did last week give him props. That's when it's not just criticism but actual vested interest in Tebow failing because those reporters/analyst want to say We told you so. You can't win like that.

It's so damn ridiculous the way these dudes get away with this. I mean anybody in their right mind can see they are the definition of the word hater.

Go suck it Rick while the Broncos win the west u douche!!!!!

so you're upset at the guy because he changed his mind when presented with new evidence? seems to me that hating on a guy for adjusting his opinion makes you the hater.

Yep, pretty pathetic if that was the only reason, and it would say a lot more about Reilly than it does Tebow. It's one thing to hold people to the standard they project, since we also live in a pretty hypocritical age, but this would be a pretty petty and desperate attempt at muckraking for the sake of doing it, not accountability. There's keeping people honest and then there's putting them under the microscope just to find something worth condemning.

Tebow's not an elected official or someone deserving a high level of public oversight: He's a football player. I could understand keeping an eye out for reports of him at seedy bars or casinos or something; he actively projects an off the field lifestyle for which he tries to be a spokesman, so naturally he's expected to behave consistently with that. Covertly surveillilng him just to catch a slip, however, is rather disgusting.

All that said, maybe he just got a lip reader so he could get some direct insight into Tebow during games generally, and the absence of swearing was just one thing he observed. The boon and bane of Twitter is that it doesn't allow comments as long as this one, which makes conveying any nuance impossible.

This seems so much like when the media was giddy about Sarah Palin's personal e-mails being released. SURELY we'd find out the real dirt on her, they vowed. The New York Times hired three staffers to comb through e-mails while the Huffington Post begged for volunteers to examine every word for signs of dirt.

After a week, the media quickly and quietly reported that they really couldn't find anything objectionable in any of it and then changed the subject.

I'm sure the media jackals like Reilly can't wait to find something bad on Tim.

Read my lips, Reilly: "Go **** yourself."

This is just ridiculous-

Biblical cursing is literal cursing, like the old school ones in spanish "I curse that vagina that birthed you", "I pray to god that your seed will die" that's the kind of curse that is forbade by the bible. "Let's ******* do this" does not use God's name nor is it negative to anyone. It's sorta frowned upon when kids are in the room...but that doesn't make it non-christian.

BTW premarital sex is only forbidden in the bible if affects the dowry...It kinda raises an interesting question as I'm sure there are a ton of dads out there that would pay to have TT as a son in law...hmmmm.

Has Jagsbch shown up at your place yet? We eventually had to ban him for general douchery. Mix a Tebow fanboi of the worst sort with the kind of conspiracy kook (fake moon landing, Lyndon LaRouche, that kind of general vibe) that can clear out a bar room in under 10 minutes and that was Jugs. Apparently he has been banned all over the interwebz; we last saw him getting banned from a Jets site. He can be found on Bleacher Report though if you are looking to waste a lot of time reading creative conspracies.
