San Diego Times-Union (http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/dec/02/looking-more-smith-join-turner-unemployment-least-/)
As the winds blowing through San Diego seem intent on whisking Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith out of town along with head coach Norv Turner, league sources made it clear this week that Smith will at least be a candidate for other GM jobs expected to open around the league.
Chargers President Dean Spanos, according to those around the team and around the league, feels he has “no choice” but to go in another direction at head coach and that Turner will be fired at season’s end.
We're gonna miss you guys (sniff)

I don't think Smith is the problem. I think Turner is, though.

Smith may be losing his "Midas touch." Draft choices such as Larry English are looking like poor choices and letting guys Sproles and Turner go without adequate replacements is starting to bit them in the ass.
I remember when charger fans would say that us beating them kept us pacified, that we had no other aspirations. They said that was not them. They were not going to be happy with just that. They were going to the Super Bowl. 5 years later still not even am appearance. Bahahaha!! :)Love it!!!

They absolutely need to get rid of AJ Smith along with Norv Turner. The "Lord of No Rings" has treated players in that locker room with virtually no respect in contract dealings and not extending Vincent Jackson and McNeil cost them their season last year. Norv can take blame for this year but last year they were a very well coached team on offense and defense(not special teams) but just needed a few more big plays. Everybody needs to be fired there and they need to change the way they run their organization.

I hope they get replaced with Matt Millen and Josh McDaniels.

I hope they don't fire either. I wanted Al Davis to live forever too. Damn.
A.J. should have been booted years ago. Norv is just a solid coach. He's not going to do anything special.

i'd be shocked if someone else hired that contentious bastage AJ smith. . . dude lets his pride and his temper affect his work-- very unprofessional. . . and more importantly, his drafting has gone completely to hell. . . trading up for jacob hester in the second round? are you kidding me?

Smith has been reading about what a genius he is for so long he believed it. In fact he has pretty much gravytrained for years off of a couple of outstanding drafts.

I'm with UnderArmour here, the line in the sand treatment of V. Jackson and McNeil cost them their season last year. Talk about winning the battle and losing the war. AJ Smith and Carl Peterson are examples of why it's good to have an owner who holds the front office accountable. I have been a proponent of having a real GM be in charge of drafting players and getting FA's, but the coach and his staff should be a consensus hire.

It's A.J. that let talent like Sproles and Turner walk because he didn't want to pay them.

AJ Smith defines arrogant smarmy management. Like McD, but not a coach.

It's the curse of Schottenheimer. Look at every franchise that's fired him, and their record afterwards. AFC championship games weren't good enough. . .but they haven't done much better since. Now, even a playoff win is asking a lot.

The Chargers have definitely fallen each year since they fired Marty. Norv led them to the AFC Championship his first season in 2007 (the game where Rivers played with a torn acl), winning two playoff games in the process. The next season was the bitter 8-8 finish that sent us packing. They won in the wildcard round against the Colts, but lost the next game. Then in 2009 they again won the division and were the 2 seed, but failed to win in the divisional round with no playoff wins. Last season, the hapless Chiefs won the division and San Diego was barely above .500 sitting at home.
This season, they will be lucky if they even make it to .500!
